I'll be in New Orleans with my family over the Thanksgiving Weekend; wife and the 4 boys aged 13-21. None of us have been.

We need a great dining spot for one night. Gotta be great food. Really want it to be representative of New Orleans cuisine/style but that doesn't have to be the sole menu focus.

Don't want steakhouses (Doris) or the better Italian places. I've seen the list of usual suspects but some seem to formal (Brennans) and others not interesting.

Looking for a "business casual" atmosphere. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

The best advice I can give you is to stay in the tourist areas.

The ‘old standards’:
Commander’s Palace
K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen
Brennan’s
Antoinne’s

Less established but still exceptional:
Clancy’s
Patois
Dooky Chase
Willie Mae’s
Liuzza’s
Vincent’s
Satsuma Cafe
August
Herbsaint
Coquette
Elizabeth’s

Not a loser in the lot, I gah-rohn-tee.

Non-dinner:
R&O Restaurant for po’ boys
Central Grocery for muffalettas

Well, we ended up booking at Tableau.

I have to say, this was not easy. And Tableau was not our first choice. We ran into a lot of places that required jackets! Very surprised at that and normally wouldn’t be that big a deal but I don’t want to pack that sort of stuff on the plane and for all the kids to boot.

Many places (Brennans, etc.) were booked solid. Many have VERY small menus that we didn’t care for. Maybe they run lots of off menu specials, but we didn’t want to take that chance.

We were booked at Galatoires but cancelled because of the required jackets.

So...it’ll be Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House before the Saints Game and then Tableau the next night! We’ll eat well.

Thanks to all for the tips and the advice.
