IIRC, the AC must convince the Israeli's that he is Jewish. And, I believe he will seem to be a lily white peace maker acclaimed by one and all to be a wonderful man, pure as the driven snow.

Apples were a fertility symbol. Surviving burns that severe is a recent development involving lots of anti-biotics and a very controlled environment so it seems unlikely that it would be used as torture.
