I wish I knew how to get the transcript. I recall discussion of it a long time ago, when I was new, almost a year really, and I tried and failed to produce it. Can you help?

On the youtube page, below the video display but above the comments section, there are to the right 3 dots arranged horizontally a little above the red “subscribe” button. Click on that, and you will find some choices. Among them is “open transcript”.

Tips for displaying Youtube Video Trancripts

Note that not all Youtube videos have a trancript. Also, the transcript is produced with a software program that interprets spoken language, so phonetic words and misspellings are not unusual.

Part A: See if a transcript is available.

Part B: Scroll through transcript and turn the display of timestamps on/off.

 

A few closing remarks. The transcript opened to the right of the video in this example. Sometimes it opens elsewhere on the page. If you let the video play while reading the transcript, the transcript text scrolls by. I prefer to turn the timestamp display off and then copy the transcript (hold left mouse button down and drag down the text to scroll it) and paste it into an email to myself or a program on my computer.

Before you go......did you know that you can share a URL of a Youtube video to start at a certain point of interest in the video by pausing the video at the "start" point, right clicking your mouse, and choosing "COPY VIDEO URL AT CURRENT TIME." When the recipient clicks on the link, or pastes it into their browser, the video will be ready to play at the point you selected.
