“Why didn’t he have his security fob?”

We don’t know that he did not have his key fob.

“If she had voluntarily let him in and he was not a resident and attacked someone or burglarized a unit she could have been held civilly and possibly criminally liable.”

Unless she committed a crime, she would have no criminal liability.

On the original thread, most folks here jumped to the guy's defense............

Having lived in an apartment building for 23 years, I would have done the same thing..........

So? You appear to believe people are obligated to oblige unless told otherwise.

That is unintelligent.

Then why didn't he just show it or use it?

She could have been charged as an accessory, sued civilly and probably tossed from the building.

“Then why didn’t he just show it or use it?”

It does not appear he is requited to show his key fob to strangers.

For all he knew, she was an intruder and wanted to gain further access to the building or units in the building by taking his key fob or the keys to his apartment.

Now, why did Miss. Thronton call the police?

Classic example of certain individuals who prefer to jump to conclusions based on unsubstantiated facts.......

SHE DIDN'T CALL THE POLICE!

The racially intimidated black guy either posted the video on the internet, which was then picked up by the local news station, or sent it directly to the local station who then made it headline news.............

You think that just maybe this guy was looking for a payday or at the very least, camera time on the local TV??????

Watch his interview where he is saying he doesn't want any actions taken against her.......yea, right. She lost her job and is now considered a racist in her community..........

You provide a video like that to the local media and you have only one intention..........He got his wish.

I just think that people have aright to walk into their homes without being harassed or being forced to show their credentials.

SHE DIDN'T CALL THE POLICE!

From the article-

Police responded about 30 minutes later after being called by Thornton but they didn't cite anyone.

You also believe the corollary - that people who live in the building have no right to challenge people they don’t know when they just walk into the building.

How unintelligent.

Under no circumstances should one block access of someone attempting to enter their own home.

It’s all good.

That line was buried deep in a repetitive Daily Mail article.

t’s a common problem, especially where you can buzz people in — some stranger buzzes every apartment,

Been there, lived that.

People would buzz my apartment and I would go down stairs to confront them rather than let them in.......

People have come to my third floor apartment at all hours of the night and knock on my door. Either someone let them in because of the buzz or they just turned the doorknob and yanked the door open.........Wrong building.........

I've lived thru everything imaginable during my 23 years of apartment life in a steadily declining neighborhood and there is no way I can condemn this woman for her actions.............

You seem to be missing something here, maybe you have comprehension problem. I work in a secure building and we have to use badge swipes to get into the building with a pin code. If somebody tried to follow me into the building without entering their pin code Id shut the door in their face or tell them flat out you need to put in your own individual pin to get in, you can’t tailgate behind me. Why anyone would try to still forced their way through is somebody looking to cause trouble and they have their phone out? interesting.

If two residents of a multi-family structure do not know each other, why should one resident automatically believe the other when they say they live there? By that logic, hotels should never lock the entrances away from the lobby - because guests come and go that way.

If a resident allows a non-resident to enter, they assume responsibility for the non-resident’s behavior. Your viewpoint demands that every resident make themselves liable for any person who claims to be a resident.

Where did you get the idea he forced his way into the building?

She was holding the door open for her dog when he walked up.

He needs his key fob to enter the building otherwise he can't enter the front door.

She is not allowed to open the locked front door and allow strangers to enter.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

I read the story and watched the video.

She attempted to deny him access to his home.

He has a right to enter his own home.

She had no right to restrict him from entering the building.
