Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), the pastiest white woman in the entire Senate, has long been a figure of fun for her claim to be the "first woman of color" to teach at Harvard Law School, owing to her "family lore" of holding Native American ancestry. It doesn't exactly seem to check out based on looking at her, or asking around in the Oklahoma Native American community she claims to be part of. President Trump has had a field day with her pretensions, calling her "Pocahontas."
Now she's come out after a long, long hiatus from those charges to claim that yes, she's found a geneticist who claims she has a Native American ancestor, some six to ten generations back. According to the Washington Post:
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who is gearing up for a potential 2020 presidential bid, has released a DNA test that suggests she has a distant Native American ancestor, part of an extraordinary effort to discredit President Trump and others who have questioned her claims about her heritage.
Warren's "gotcha" is hardly the "slam dunk" she claims. The genetic finding she cites makes her at most 1/32 Native American, and it could easily be as little as 1/512 Native American. Since Warren's original claim to Native American ancestry was that her great, great grandmother Sara was "part" Native American, that raises the likelihood that she's in the 1/512 range.
This is almost exactly the same as the average white American's composition of Native American ancestry. One out of 512 is 0.19 percent. The average white American's is 0.18 percent, according to Sam Morningstar, who has an authoritative-looking piece on Quora about how Native American ancestry works in the U.S. and the fact that it's frankly, among whites, quite rare. The 0.18 percent average, he notes, is easily misleading,

The best way around this crap is for everyone to claim minority ancestry. Your next child, put them down as Indian. The one after that black. Once everyone is a minority, then this will stop.
Good one.
This is outright fraud.
Im 15% Native American based on three DNA tests. I mark my authenticity as white.
Just ridiculous!
ts all in how you spin it.
Many, many, many generations ago, one of Elizabeth Warrens Native-American ancestors decided it was more advantageous to be white.
Since then, not a single person in Sen. Warrens lineage has sought out a return to their native heritage, choosing instead to marry only white people.
Native-Americans are saddened that Sen. Warrens family tree has been so embarrassed by their Native-American heritage that they have only considered non-Native-Americans as their choice of spouse for so many generations.
lol
That would be funny.
It’s starting to approaching the point of “piling on.” But then, Warren deserves all the derision heaped upon her.
She soooooo fits her party.
And Harvard.
Oh how the (so-called mighty) have fallen.
Mike
My wife is half Italian on her mother's side. Her Dad is from North Carolina for as far back as anyone can remember. She did a DNA test to see what her Dad's half shows. She's as Native American as E. Warren!
Good one!
Agree! My great grandmother was a member of the Cherokee nation that were driven out of TX into OK in the mid-19th century. Of course that happened before her birth and her family subsequently moved back into central TX in and around the Rockdale area. She married white man named Cook, who I really know nothing about, other than he was my mom’s grandfather. My grandparents nor my mom ever really talked about him so he may have been a ne’redowell. Anyway. I would never have considered claiming my heritage for benefits. (Although now that I’m retired, maybe I should... Just kidding.)
Fauxahontas should be required to pay back all the education money she got for her faux heritage lie.
Per the same Genetic Literacy Project:
“Broadly, the genomic analysis found that on an average the African American genome was 73.2 percent African, 24 percent European and 0.8 percent Native American. Latinos as expected had significantly more Native American ancestry with the average Latino genome being 18 percent Native American, 65.1 percent European and 6.2 percent African.”
IOW the average Hispanic has 18% Native American and the average African American has ~1% Native American. In contrast, Warren at best has 1/64 and at worst 1/1024 Native American blood.
She barely has enough to drive a Jeep Cherokee!
My paternal great grandmother was full-blood Wiyot of the Bear River Band in the Humboldt/Klamath region of California. Not many of us left. It burns to see someone like Elizabeth Warren try to lay claim to something she is obviously not entitled to.
But will she float if thrown into the river?
