Many people (though not FReepers) fail to understand how diametrically different were the French and American experiences. French--atheist/democracy--was a direct ancestor of communism and certainly ANTIFA.

I attribute part of that to the lack of geographic space between the represented areas. Too close to be able to be a real republic.
