The best law firms hire former federal prosecutors as their criminal defense lawyers. It's actually really hard to have credibility in criminal defense at those levels without having worked as a prosecutor because of both street cred and because former prosecutors have an automatic leg up over non-prosecutors in dealing with the current prosecutors. So if someone is footing your legal bills, your criminal defense lawyer will likely be a former prosecutor of some stripe. I don't really see anything odd about this that we could read into.
What I'm reading into this is that Bromwich is being brought on board to deal with matters of CRIMINAL LAW.
Ford isn't a defendant. She's not even dealing with prosecutors now (OR MAYBE SHE IS). She's a prospective witness in a Senate confirmation process.
I didn't have a criminal lawyer in any of my dealings as a WITNESS. LOL.
In any hearing like this — whether it’s testimony before Congress, a grand jury, or a witness in a civil case with criminal implications — having a criminal defense attorney is a plus and having a former prosecutor prepping you can only help. You may have different experiences as a witness, but having a criminal defense lawyer do the prep and having that lawyer be a former prosecutor is so normal that it doesn’t add any information. With one caveat, if she’s worried about perjury, then a criminal defense lawyer is critical.
