Q
The 'easy' answer is that they were given the information...under the table.
Heck, this is a q proof IMHO.
Interesting graphic from one of the articles linked by Bongino:
As Bongino points out, conservative justices take the longest to confirm, apart from Elena Kagan. But look at John Roberts. This stands out as much as Rod Rosenstein's near-unanimous Senate confirmation. Why was John Roberts such a popular choice? Was there something about Roberts that wouldn't have survived a longer investigation?

Q
I like the way you think!
Simpler: they knew because they were the ones involved in the spying.
Intelligence obtained from Steele was then transmitted to UK (Downer) through the use of Nellie Ohr's short-wave radio setup (packet transmit).
That was, in turn, sent back to Brennan as UK-based intel and used in the FISA app.
It is necessary that I put this here:

OK. With the latest piece from the NYT about Rod Rosenstein offering to wear a wire and recruit cabinet members to invoke the 25th amendment, what is going on? Is RR a white hat or a black hat?

Should the DAG be joking about wearing a wire and entrapping POTUS? Or was he joking....
Rosenstein proposed secretly recording conversations with Trump, invoking 25th Amendment: NYT
A Justice Department spokeswoman provided a comment to the Times from a person who was present for the discussions, saying Rosenstein’s remarks were meant to be taken as sarcasm.
Rosenstein issued a statement to the Times.
The New York Timess story is inaccurate and factually incorrect, he said. I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda.”
