There were also some German POWs in North Alabama near Redstone Arsenal.

My cousin had them as a work crew for some projects he had to get completed. He said almost all of them were happy to be there instead of still fighting the war. Most stayed in the US after the war.

My grandfather had a work crew from the camp in his lumber/sawmill operation also. They were young men, of course, and I know they were also glad to be out of the fighting.

Heck, they had German POWs working at the Greenbriar hotel and when Christmas came they just left them to the place. They were also apparently phenomenal bakers.
