Once upon a time there were 2 guys: Bob and Fred. Bob was smart and he had a farm and made important decisions. Fred was dumb. He just plowed the fields. Up and down. Up and down. Up and down. Life was good.
Farming became increasingly automated. A factory opened up, making tools and consumer goods. Bob became a foreman. He made decisions and told people what to do. Fred just worked the assembly line. Tighten the nuts. Tighten. Tighten. Tighten. Life was good.
Heavy industry started to fade, but they opened up an office park. Bob became office manager. He hired and fired and he watched the bottom-line. Fred sat in a cubicle and typed reports. Type. Type. Type. Life was good.
High tech automation came along, and robots started doing everything. Bob remained an office manager and watched the bottom-line. Do you think Fred is out in the field repairing high-tech robots and re-programming their circuit boards?? When has Fred ever shown such ability?
They will get rid of Bob too, because he won’t have anyone to manage. The computer at head office will give the financial reports he used to run directly to management, probably with commentary.
