As an inherently political comedy, CBS Murphy Brown revival was fully expected to take on the Donald Trump presidency, and now we know it will include his controversial immigration policies.
Relative newcomer Adan Rocha has been cast as a new series regular on the new Murphy Brown, from original creator Diane English and Warner Bros. TV.
First appearing in the shows second episode, he will play Miguel, a Mexican Dreamer who came to the United States at the age of one. Now hes a college student working at Phils Bar alongside Phyllis (Tyne Daly) for extra money to put toward tuition. Quick with a quip, hes always making cracks about The Wall and ICE.
English previously had said that the revival would address Trumps attacks on mainstream media and its coverage, which he brands fake news.
Candice Bergen is back as intrepid investigative journalist and news anchor Murphy Brown. Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud reprise their roles from the original series. Charles Kimbrough, who was the newscast anchor in the original, is set to do three episodes of the remake as a guest star. New series regulars include Daly, Jake McDorman as Murphys grown-up son Avery, and Nik Dodani as Pat Patel.
Rocha previously did arcs on IFCs Brockmire and Freeforms The Fosters.
That woman is older than I am and looks worse. Watching that face alone ought to sicken the audience.
It will flop because its Murphy Brown... Period.
This is a show that never held up... It was a flop in syndication.
It will get, I am sure a big, hit initially, and then die off in the ratings only to be held on too long by the networks because the “politics” of the show are “correct” and they won’t admit it was a mistake in the first place...
So like the Will and Grace revival, which ended its first season in the toilet, yet still got renewed for not one but 2 more seasons.. Murphy Brown will follow the same pattern... Unless of Course Trump actively engages with their lunacy and props it up.
The D in DACA stands for DEFERRED. They’ve had their deferment and now should be processed out or allowed to register and remain. Keep the “keepers” and send the rest home.
I recently discovered 1950s and 1960s episodes of “Dragnet” on YouTube and was very pleasantly surprised. Worth checking out as well, IMHO.
What these shows need is GOOD-LOOKING chicks showing lots of skin!
Thanks for the information. I have watched no new programming for many years, except “The Middle.” I enjoy the classics, though. I catch “Gunsmoke” every night. I probably saw a lot of the shows when I was a kid, but that was over 50 years ago, so they are all new to me now. I think they are better all around, and are not an insult to my intelligence or morality.
What if the lead actress pokes fun at a white Iranian who identifies as black? :)
Can it last as long as Roseanne? Judging by “Madame Secretary” going into its 4th or 5th season despite crap ratings, we can only guess this turkey will be propped up by the network indefinitely.
Just a side note, Candace Bergen went to the same university as Trump, but she dropped out after only a year of hard partying at Kappa Kappa Gamma, and he didn’t arrive until a year or two later.
Calm down. It’s an actor play a role, not a real person. Like how Susan Lucci isn’t really Erica Kane.
I kinda doubt that. She had already dropped out before he arrived at Penn. She entered in fall of 1963 and was asked to leave in the middle of sophomore year, at the end of 1964 or early part of 1965, because she was failing classes. He went to Fordham for his first two years then switched to Penn in fall of 1965.
I recently watched the movie “Bite the Bullet” again and I have to say back then Candace Bergen was a hot looking babe.
>>>Like how Susan Lucci isnt really Erica Kane<<<
Who is this Susan Lucci you speak of? Does Erica Kane know that she has stolen her Identity?
“The Sand Pebbles”
She was gorgeous.
Murphy Brown is on right now on one of my local re-run channels. Probably pretty cheap to get and your right it was never a syndication hit like say Seinfield, which 20 years after it went off still commands about $1 Million an episode in syndication.
I actually enjoyed the show. Miles was funny.
It’s way past time to bring this dinosaur back.
Won’t be watching.
Oh yes, she was very attractive, a classic European-American beauty, classy and a little sexy at the same time.
She wasn't in Cybil Shepherd territory (she could stop a clock), more at the level of Ali MacGraw or Katharine Ross. Prettier than Faye Dunaway or Sally Kellerman.
The Murphy Brown show was sickeningly ultra liberal the first time around. I’m sure this remake will try to top the original.
Drives me nuts when they extol the virtues of illegals by using as an example someone who is totally legal.
Like those Modelo ads featuring successful Hispanics.
I’m fairly certain that if you became a fighter pilot
or an astronaut, you’re here legally.
