As an inherently political comedy, CBS Murphy Brown revival was fully expected to take on the Donald Trump presidency, and now we know it will include his controversial immigration policies.
Relative newcomer Adan Rocha has been cast as a new series regular on the new Murphy Brown, from original creator Diane English and Warner Bros. TV.
First appearing in the shows second episode, he will play Miguel, a Mexican Dreamer who came to the United States at the age of one. Now hes a college student working at Phils Bar alongside Phyllis (Tyne Daly) for extra money to put toward tuition. Quick with a quip, hes always making cracks about The Wall and ICE.
English previously had said that the revival would address Trumps attacks on mainstream media and its coverage, which he brands fake news.
Candice Bergen is back as intrepid investigative journalist and news anchor Murphy Brown. Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud reprise their roles from the original series. Charles Kimbrough, who was the newscast anchor in the original, is set to do three episodes of the remake as a guest star. New series regulars include Daly, Jake McDorman as Murphys grown-up son Avery, and Nik Dodani as Pat Patel.
Rocha previously did arcs on IFCs Brockmire and Freeforms The Fosters.
‘Black-ish’ creator opens up about an ‘anti-Trump’ episode shelved by ABC that was reportedly one reason he left for Netflix
I never liked the show. even as a kid i could spot liberal b.s. a mile away. Not going to watch the reboot either.
Didnt watch this garbage when it first aired, and wont watch it now
I never watched the original series. I sure as hell won’t watch the reboot....................
Resist! with 80’s sitcoms. That’s the ticket.
But I will predict MS-13 will not be in any of them.
Note to Trump. Ignore this show.
Don’t do a Dan Quayle and give it any publicity
Isnt she like a million years old?
What day and time is this show supposed to be on? I ask because there are probably re-runs of “Bonanza” or “Gomer Pyle” on at the same time, and I’ll be watching them instead.
Now they're reaching back 25 years. The title character is now over 70, and more resembles Bea Arthur's Maudethan she does the cute, charming ingenue of the '60s and early '70s.
‘Murphy Brown: The Memory Care Years’
Must C TV /s
Hmmm, Adan Rocha is that a Mexican name? Isnt that cultural appropriation?
This series won’t last long.
Remember the “NO NRA” sign on the back of murph’s door?
He was great in the one season of "Limitless", a show that never should have been cancelled.
The DVD’s of this show will sit around the thrift bargain bins until someone finally throws them in the dumpster.
There was a time when I liked Candace Bergen.
That was a long time ago.
The first Murphy Brown was horrible. I am sure this one will be just as shrill.
It will attract some folks. But not enough of the key demographic to make any money.
The folks in Hollywood are just so blind to what the country wants.
Murphy Brown in the original show was a mean, vindictive recovery alcoholic who one claim to fame was she was a hard hitting interviewer...as long as her subject was a white conservative.
The world has passed her by and for the most part her “fans” from the old days have pretty much given up on TV and the young people have no idea who she is (or was) and they don’t watch TV in any case.
The show will fail.
