Nike unveiled a new ad on Monday for the 30th anniversary of its "Just Do It" campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick, who has remained unsigned by an NFL team for nearly two years.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback tweeted an image from the new campaign featuring a close-up photo of his face, accompanied by the words "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything."
Kaepernick became the first player to take a knee during the national anthem during the 2016 NFL season as part of an effort to protest social injustice. He became a free agent at the end of the season, and has remained unsigned.
The player has since filed a grievance alleging that league owners colluded to keep him off a team. An arbitrator ruled last week that Kaepernick's case will go to trial. ESPN reported that Nike signed Kaepernick to an endorsement deal in 2011, and has maintained that contract since then.
"We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward," Gino Fisanotti, Nike's vice president of brand for North America, told ESPN.
In the roughly two years since Kapernick first started kneeling, numerous other players have taken a knee, raised a fist or have stayed off the field during the playing of the national anthem in protest of social injustice.
President Trump has lashed out at protesting players, declaring they should be fired and suggesting they don't belong in the country.

Lol! Noted.
To youngsters, they probably look a little clunky, but so be it. I wore the sandals every day on vacation a few weeks back...two days at LEGOLAND, two days at Disneyland/Calif Adventure. Probably walked 6+ miles a day at each location, feet never felt better.
Although prices range between 90-140 or so, they seem to have sales every month. Their specially made insoles kick azz, too.
Kaepernick had decent games but Coaches quickly developed strategies to stop him and he wasn't sharp enough to adapt.
Not a guy you want to build your franchise around or feature in your marketing campaign.
That $%^&$ sacrificed nothing. Our soldiers have risked and and some have lost everything.
I could not be more disgusted with Nike...and I happen to know all their “equality” crap is just that. Crap.
Now I know why I dont buy Nike Clothes, shoes.
Just Do What..call for the slaughter of cops..Just Do What..depict cops as pigs..Just Do What Nike..DESTROY your brand in a span of 5 minutes..yeah that is what you Just Did Nike
The majority of the world is non-white.
They cater to the world market.
I think it’s wrong. Copperdick has “Already Done It! He’s managed to eff himself out of millions of bucks for nothing! Not that I give a fig, because I quit my interest in the NFL twenty years ago when Joe Montana retired.
What has Kaepernick sacrificed? He’s still a millionaire and his NFL was over anyway as he sucked as a QB.
Well, that remains to be seen if their strategy of unnecessarily alienating customers without seeing an overall decline in both sales and revenue actually works.
Nike never made a shoe I could wear. New Balance does a fine job for me in that sort of gear, otherwise these size 15’s go to Red Wing.
The Kaepernick Nike line of Antifa clothing...
Nike just got a life-time boycott from me.
That’s pushin’ it!
BOYCOTT. TELL THEM WHY. SEND a COPY OF A TECEIPT for every other brand you buy yo them!!!
As a sister ad, they need one that says, “If you believe in something so much that you will ‘sacrifice’ for it, STFU and knock off the whining all the time.” “Just Stuff It!”
Yes. They ARE THAT STUPID. Nike will be the clothing brand of Antifa and other traitors to the United States.
Insurance companies buy the bulk of them when the shopowners file the theft claims
Just like everything the left believes in its all shallow and false. Everyone who knows the story knows he was benched before he started kneeling.
Nike trying to actually make us think he was a starting quarterback playing every game decides to start kneeling and they benched him so he “sacrificed everything”. Again, the left’s entire philosophy is built on a false narrative and their economic and social policies are built on a history of broken humanity, destruction and death. Communism/socialism ...whatever.
