Q seems to place importance on them so it is no surprise you don't and conclude that there is Not enough information to draw any useful conclusions from it.

This seems pretty well researched and explained, which is where my skepticism comes from.

The fact that the process being used ensure the number will only go up and up (like total of all home runs hit in the Major League at the end of each month) means I can't get real excited that "the number has gone up".
