European Union Set to Scrap Daylight Saving Time
ktla ^

Posted on 08/31/2018 7:31:21 AM PDT by BenLurkin

According to Juncker, more than 80% of EU citizens want to abolish daylight saving time and instead remain on the time used during summer instead.

At the moment, each EU member state puts clocks forward one hour on the last Sunday of March and back again on the last Sunday in October.

One of the chief critics of daylight saving time has been Finland, which has one of the most northerly capital cities in the EU.

Over 70,000 Finns signed a petition last October to urge the government to move away from daylight saving time. For Finland, the plan is also complicated by the fact it shares borders with non-EU states Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, all of which scrapped daylight saving time in 2011.

No it doesn’t. Sun time has always been good enough

They started the fiasco to try and save energy. It didn’t help. It makes no difference in Ag country where the day begins and ends with the sun.

If folks are all that worried about kids safely getting to school then change the time school starts and ends. Day Light Savings time is a joke

Why make changes to a naturally occurring event

If I have a six foot blanket and my feet stick out the end I can’t gix it by cutting twelve inches off the top and sewing that onto the bottom

Sun time was ended in the 1880s when we went to time zones. Otherwise each city and town would have their own time, and the time would change each day based on when the sun reaches the midpoint in the sky. Taking out daylight savings without removing time zones wouldn’t take us back to any “natural” time, unless you believe New York City and st Joseph Michigan are somehow synced in their times

We don’t have it in AZ and I love it this way. It always seemed silly to change time on the clock.

No you wouldn't. People want the time to stay on DST year-round.

uhh….I'm a people, and I'm telling you I would. I don't get home till after 6. That evening daylight is when I get all of my gardening and outdoor projects done.

Daylight savings time is a joke. It serves no purpose. If you weren’t around in the early 70s when these fights started you missed some really dumb arguments

I like Daylight Savings time as having that extra hour of daylight after work during summer is very important. Let's me put a burger on the grill and have a beer on my back deck before sunset. Why would you want to deny that to working people?

I think it should make it two hours of extra daylight!

You didn’t have that before 1973

Go to work earlier. Turn some lights on

You’re dumb enough to think you get extra hours of sunlight. You don’t

You want more sunlight?

Move further north.

I want my extra sunlight down here. And there’s nothing you can do about it. You don’t control the sun.

The United States should scrap daylight savings time too. I like everything else Benjamin Franklin came up with, but this idea was a stupid one. Why do you need to trick people with a time change for summer?

I realize I’m older than I’ve ever been and am descending (or ascending) in to curmudgeonhood, but I quite agree. I like seeing the sun being south at noon.
