So McCain didn’t leave on his own terms. I think that rules out suicide - that would constintute offer to choose one’s terms.
Therefore - military tribunal sentence for treason?! How else would he not leave on his own terms but within the rule of law? Then all the Deep State raving about what a honest-and-true patriot hero he was becomes rebuttal to such a sentence (i.e., to imply execution was political and not based on merit)

That is highly ambiguous. Suicide is usually, by definition, leaving on your own terms. Although there is history of Roman power turnover where certain heads were allowed to "suicide out," to spare death for their families.

White hats would not be very white if they resort to such threats and tactics.

Maybe just the instance of getting an incurable disease satisfies "not leaving on your own terms."
