If you do that to avoid the $10,000 reporting requirement with cash at a bank, it is called money laundering. Hastert got caught doing that. More accurately, it is called "Structuring". And Hastert was guilty of it in paying hush money to a teenage boy he had molested years ago.

Yes, you are correct. I just call it money laundering as short hand, actually it is the crime that people commit when they are trying to cover up money laundering.
