"Cooder returned for a mournful slide workout during Woody Guthries Vigilante Man. The solo excursion included spine-tingling harmonics that surprised even the player himself. Yeah, Cooder exclaimed in delight as his fingers found their mark. Thats hard to do, he said. Its nice when you get it, and a mess when you dont. Cooder augmented Guthries lyrics with a verse for Trayvon Martin in remembrance of the youth and others cut down due to misplaced fear and abuse of power."

This is disappointing. I like some of his old music. I certainly would have gone to see him if he played locally. Not now, I guess.
Good work by Ry and David Lindley on their collaborations (particularly on Mercury Blues). I’m tired, though, of all these artiste types chiming in with their religious and political opinions during performances for which ticket holders only want to be entertained, not lectured.
Pitiful
Some hard core Delta slide, a little Robert Johnson in there. ^^^
Agreed, this is disappointing. I love this song, Ai Du, very sexy, from the movie Unfaithful and I refuse to allow this to ruin it. Wish they could just keep their mouths shut.
Ali Farka Touré and Ry Cooder (7:04) with scenes from the movie:

Stuck in the middle with you (cover)
I liked his movie soundtrack work on The Long Riders and Last Man Standing. You’re right, I don’t care what their politics are if they just keep them off stage.
Trayvon should NOT have broken George Zimmerman’s nose.
Trayvon should NOT have given George Zimmerman two black eyes.
Trayvon should NOT have repeatedly slammed George Zimmerman’s head on the pavement.
Trayvon should NOT have gotten suspended from school for possessing traces of marijuana.
Trayvon should NOT have stolen 12 pcs of ladies jewelry, and a mans watch.
Trayvon should NOT have kept a flat head screwdriver described as a burglary tool, in his backpack.
Trayvon should NOT have had a criminal past of theft, hiding and acting suspicious.
Trayvon should NOT have encouraged ... fellow thugs to commit murder with the tweet, Plzz shoot da #mf dat lied 2 u!.
TRAYVON MARTIN: - Hey, are you following me?
GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: - Ummm, yes.
TRAYVON MARTIN: - May I ask why?
GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: - Well, uh, weve had a number off robberies in this neighborhood lately, and I dont recognize you...
TRAYVON MARTIN: - Oh, well, Im Travon Martin, Im spending the summer at my uncles in unit 12.
I expect youll see a lot of me this summer.
GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: - OK, thanks, good to know.
Im George Zimmerman, by the way.
They shake hands.
TRAYVON MARTIN: - No, thank you for keeping an eye out for your neighbors!
Yep. Cooder is over rated
Regarding slide guitarists, Derek Trucks is worth going to see, and theres little to no politics.
Nice work, bookmarked.
Demented politics is what one gets with Cooder. One knows that going in (which is why I don't go in).
Artists often don't own the rights to their own songs and the owners of those rights are more than happy to take money for the use of those songs regardless of where it comes from. As I recall, ABKCO (late scumbag crook Allan B. Klein's Company) owns the rights to most Stones songs.
Tom Waits’ album, “Small Change” is not only his masterpiece but THE best album of the 70’s - amazing music and lyrics that put Dylan to shame.
The cover featured a stripper, a young actress named Cassandra Peterson, who later became “Elvira”.
It was during this time his “roommate/gf” was a young Rickie Lee Jones who posed on the back cover of his album “Blue Valentine”.
I remember the good Captain.
He played at the Memorial Union at U of Iowa back in ‘69...
My favorite of his tunes is “The Very Thing that Makes you Rich”. Incredible guitar work, and very insightful lyrics.
LOL.
