2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance: Here's What We Thought
Jalopnik ^ | 8/3/18 | Kristen Lee, Patrick George, Ryan Felton, and Michael Ballaban

For me, the Model 3 Performance is the most impressive Tesla I’ve driven to date, and easily the most fun.

It benefits from having a super short nose up front, which makes it easy to just point and shoot wherever you want it to go. The Model 3 Performance handles like a legit sports car, and that’s not a descriptor I toss around lightly, especially for a sedan.

The night after the drive, and even now, I found myself still thinking about what it was like to be behind the wheel. I get to drive a lot of fun cars for my job, so that doesn’t happen to me very often anymore.

It’s got the neck-muscle-stretching acceleration that at this point is basically a Tesla hallmark, and it does it with such little drama and such ferocity that you don’t so much as accelerate, as it is that one instant you’re doing 20 mph, and the next instant you just happen to be doing 60 mph.

As Patrick mentioned above, the acceleration is unforgettable. It’s been a full 24 hours now and I’m still stuck on that peculiar feeling of accelerating so fast that your tongue kind of curls up on itself in your mouth.

Oh, and the seats. The seats are DEFINITELY to like. The Volvo S60’s old seats were legendary, but Volvo replaced them for the new S60 with a different seat.

The Tesla Model 3 now takes the crown for Best Seats. They’re soft and pillowy and not too large and not too small. Gimme these chairs for every chair I sit on for the rest of my life.

And BMW doesn’t charge you $1,000 to get a color that isn’t black.

“For a much better experience, a BMW M4 for $75,000 gets the same performance in a gas engine and has all the engineering a Telsa only wishes it had.”

LOL! Dream on, just don’t put up the pink slip.

“What mileage do YOU get with that acceleration?”

Let’s see, I can refill in 5 minutes. What can the Tesla do?? How many hours, again???

Oh, and, mileage? I bet the Tesla’s mileage is very low when accelerating that hard.

You Tesla bigots are just too easy to shame.

Dream on? What kind of moron are you??

That’s tight, you’re TexasGator, the liberal kind of moron, the worst kind; stupid and arrogant.

“That’s right, you can’t accelerate that fast!”

My wife’s X1 did 4.2 seconds 0-60. The car only cost $44,000. I think 4.2 versus 3.4 is plenty fast for the money.

Besides, where are you idiots going to race your Teslas?? I’ve never seen a Tesla race that fast. They’re driven by old folks going to the pharmacy to get their meds, right behind the Buicks.

My 1940 Buick cost me $300.00 I suppose if it ever breaks down, I’ll have to pony up at least twice as much for a new car.

I have two questions for the reviewer. One, how long will the battery last in August in Atlanta? Two, how long will the battery last in February in St. Paul?

Not long. Any electrical engineer understands batteries and temperature ad discharge rates.

Tesla only touts sunny-day scenarios when they give out numbers.

When a Tesla goes over 75mph, the battery life drops to below 22%, and that’s without any electrical use like AC or heat involved.

Imagine getting 40 miles range out of one of those expensive golf carts.

Most models are over 200 miles rang at 70 mph and zero degrees F.

The X1 pulled 0.85 g on the skidpad and ran a 26.8-second figure-eight lap at 0.65 average lateral g.

Despite our differences, there were places we (mostly) agreed. We all felt the powertrain was the best feature on the vehicle, and it showed on the test track. Our all-wheel-drive tester hit 60 mph in a spritely 6.8 seconds and went on to run a 15.2-second quarter mile at 90.5 mph.

Childish response. Typical of you. I guess you’re also too stupid to google for such a number and find it.

I didn’t say 70 mph. I said 75mph with electrical use.

Not to mention, that 200 mile range is on flat terrain.

You mean you want it to be so you said so out of your typically childish response. Maybe when you grow up you’ll realize the world isn’t what you think it is. Many young people think like you do.

Scientifically, we need a fuel source that has 1) high energy capacity 2) manageable liquid at human temperature 3) flexible and 4) non toxic.

GASOLINE!

But let us trade that for inconvenient electricity, because we can look hip. Hipsters riding around on electric skateboards.
