Idris Elba is one of many stars to be linked to the role of James Bond, as speculation continues over who will take over from Daniel Craig when he leaves the franchise.
And the actor, 45, appears to be back in the running for the coveted 007 role after Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said 'it is time' for a non-white leading man to play the character.
Speaking with American filmmaker Antoine Fuqua on Thursday about who could next take on the role she said it 'will happen eventually' and Idris is a clear favourite.

Bond's CIA buddy has seldom been played by an actor who fit Fleming's description. A black actor played him in Never Say Never Again as well as Casino Royale. I don't see why Idris Elba can't star as a new character in his own series. During the height of Bondmania in the 60's there lots of imitators, like Our Man Flint, Matt Helm, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Harry Palmer, et al. They better hurry, though. Sean Connery was in his early 30's when he started as Bond. Elba at 45 will be a bit long in the tooth after a few films. I think Craig is looking a bit too old.
I really do think Bond and the whole British spy thing is out-dated now. Bond was created at the height of the cold war, when it was the West against the Communists. Now the U.K. is so overgrown with potential terrorists I'm not sure whose side they are even on these days. I would like to see a Bond film set in the 50's and based on one of Fleming's actual plots.

Actually, the novels are pretty gritty. I always read Bond’s character as a thug. Daniel Craig’s portrayals have all been very thuggish. He’s has become my favorite Bond.
That said, if there’s gotta be a SJW treatment for Bond, Idris Elba is a great choice. Superb actor. I suspect he would make a fine thug of a spy.
Bond should be upper crust British. An inheritor of superior culture and genes — and attitude. Most of the movie’s action should be Bond dispensing with riffraff criminals with little effort. He should wear the best clothes, go to the most exclusive restaurants and hotels, and socialize only with extremely rich and beautiful people. Then there would be his nemesis...
