ThanQ, tang-soo! Awesome link!
TEX - this is a ginormous Laurel Canyon bunny hole! I had time to read only the first 2 parts, but the gist is that many of the residents - all famous musicians - were sons & daughters of military people and that the hippie movement was established (by them) to counteract the anti- Viet Nam War movement and discredit it! How is that for turning history on its head? It was for me as I read it, because this was my generation. I graduated from high school in 1970.
Actually, I'm not at all surprised to read that.
...and turning history on its head is only a part of the project the DS/left launched (JMHO) in the late 70's to try to entice 'Nam vets back to voting for their favored political candidates.
Not to mention (said the cynical old ex-sailor) rebuilding trust with all of those nasty "babyburners" who had just happened to have begun to hit their peak earning years.
I use my handle because of [BLEEP] like that along with many, many other things; most didn't directly affect me but destroyed/killed enough that I'll never, ever forget a damn second of those days or forgive those who've caused all that and then tried to lie their way out of it...
Guess that's why my first reaction to someone saying "Thank you for your service" is still a quick check on my six.
We're the same age. Here's another (sobering) message addressed to our generation.
Kind of make sense because there were always two kinds of hippies - the peace love and drugs hippies, and the nasty spitting political hippies, which were really more like Yippies back in the day. Seems to me they came up with Yippies because they didn’t want to be associated with the hippies, which were probably more an outgrowth of the beatniks.
You read it right, nanetteclaret! We are in the process of being Toto and pulling the curtain back on the guy running the illusions.
