They want us so badly to believe them, but they also keep telling us that their last sure thing was bogus stuff that they just made up that didnt pan out.

Whatever the source of the heat, the volcanic activity along the trail is especially powerful because of the type of rock that makes up the magma there, namely continental/granitic rock. This type of magma is very thick and viscous, and so traps more explosive gases which then build up leading to the historic super erruptions there.
