Mom's final words to teen hours before mysterious death: 'I love you'

VILLA RICA, Ga. - Parents of a Villa Rica teenager are preparing to bury their son Friday afternoon, and they still don’t know how he died.

They say not knowing what happened is the hardest part about his death.

Jarred Wright, 19, was found dead in his bedroom. His family had been on a camping trip, but Jarred stayed behind because of work.

Wright called his mother Saturday to complain of what he thought was a stomach bug.

“I said, ‘I love you,’ and he said, ‘I love you too, mom,’” Julie Wright said.

Jarred Wright was a 2017 graduate of Villa Rica High School and a multi-sport athlete.

He was involved in sports since the age of 5 and had a sports physical every year. No health issues were ever discovered.

“Never showing any signs of anything wrong with him,” said Adam Wright, Jarred’s father. “The biggest deal my son ever had was having his wisdom teeth pulled. That was it.”

Despite the discomfort Jarred Wright described Saturday, the Wrights and his friends pieced together how he spent his Saturday.

“We found out later that he had been playing basketball with some friends. He didn’t feel great, but he still played,” his mother said. “One of his friends said that was the best game they’d played, ever.”

The teen with athletic skills, great hair and a smile that lit up a room then took some Pepto Bismol and went to bed.

He never woke up.

“You always say, ‘This can’t happen to me.’ You don’t even think about it, then here we are,” Adam Wright said. “He was laying in the bed, and just never woke up.”

The University of West Georgia freshman had talked about a career in criminal justice.

So sad, especially when it happens to someone with such a promising future. I identify with the above statement deeply.

Wasn’t an autopsy done? It’s unbelievable that a coroner hasn’t established the cause of death.

I knew a family whose child died mysteriously. He excused himself from the dinner table to lie down and he never woke up. It turned out he had eaten shrimp for the very first time and had an allergic reaction that caused his throat to swell up and stop his breathing. They were terrific godly parents too. You have to understand that God sees death as a transition, not a finality. The boy is in Heaven enjoying the company of his Lord.

Yeah...but the coroners office here in Georgia is backlogged waiting on toxicology results from the state crime lab.

Im guessing either an anuerism. Appendix. or menningitis. His mother got menningitis as a toddler after we had all been at the lake.

Prayers for your family. Yes, I would wonder about appendicitis. I have had a cousin and a best friend who lost boys this age. Just heartbreaking.

#6. I had the same symptom in my stomach which I took as food poisoning. I died about 45 minutes later of cardiac arrest, cause still unknown.

Fortunately I had my wife call my police officer son to pick me up at my office, about 7 blocks from his duty post, and take me to the hospital where all my doctors worked.

I was unconscious as soon as I got in his patrol car and died at the feet of the emergency room doctor about 30 minutes later. Fortunately he was warned about my arrival and had a crash cart ready and revived my heart after 2 sets of shocks and oxygen.

Took me 6 days to come out of two commas, pneumonia and brain seizures. I was lucky. I beat the Deadpool odds but to this day my doctors don’t know what caused my heart to stop. They suspect some kind of salt chemical imbalance.

I’m sorry this young man didn’t make it. Too young to go. Prayers to his family.

Aren’t unwitnessed deaths supposed to be autopsied by the County Coroner? The autopsy results should reveal the cause of death.

How very sad. Sorry to hear this. So the autopsy was inconclusive? I wonder if the young man had take out or delivery and if so where at. I don’t like Pepto bismol. Every time my mom gave some to me as a kid I threw up.

I heard a few stories of people having bad stomach pains just prior or during a heart attack. This also happened to my father. He almost decided not to call the ambulance but my brother called for him. Thank God he called because he was suffering heart failure.

Yeah, just happened to a 39 year old guy at work recently. Eating lunch, felt sick to his stomach and left his friends to go to the bathroom. Unfortunately, no one followed him in and it was a bathroom not often used. Someone found him dead an hour later from a heart attack. Tragic.

So far, stomach pain after a hard session of basketball seems to be the only clue. An aortic aneurysm is plausible, as is severe intestinal torsion. Such a tragic loss for the family.

A close friend of mine died at work last month. He was in his 50s, got a stomach pain and borrowed some Tums on Sunday night. Monday morning he was off to work, then was found unresponsive later in the day. I never heard exactly what happened, but it shows that tomorrow is not promised.
