Could you say they also try the “pizzagate” technique by painting Trump supporters as racist, white nationalists, etc.? Breitbart brought on the haters big time from the left because of supposed white supremacists. It was a similar thing where posters said awful things like Renegade kept slamming JQ etc. Gives them a reason to paint with a fake bristled broad brush.

Mixing truth and untruth to confuse and discredit has been a time honored method used by TPB for a very long time. JFK/Warren Commission a good example.
Pizzagate incident was perhaps beyond discrediting - it seemed like a cleanup operations possibly. Declaring it a crime scene after a “lone nut” with a gun— allowed officials to keep out prying eyes, collect, conceal, and dispose of any evidence that the guilty wanted to get rid of.
