I’m surprised that we ended up without that ability - would seem to be a clear advantage to keeping oneself alive.

Stone tools, fire and the ability to out-endure over time and distance anything that looked like pray while walking gave homo and enormous advantage.

Even today, if you were good enough to keep track and stalk any other mammal on the earth, he would die of exhaustion before you.

Humans are the most endurable animals on the planet.

foot fossil

TINY WALKER  A fossil of an ancient hominid child’s foot (shown here from different angles) suggests that members of Lucy’s species, Australopithecus afarensis, walked upright early in life.

Seems like 3 million years is a long time to toddle, and breastfeed.

I’ve heard that claim before, but am not sure I believe it; a human would be, I think, hard-pressed to outrun a sled dog.

The important difference is that dog nor ape can have a relationship with God.

Persistance Hunting

"Persistence hunting is believed to have been one of the earliest hunting strategies used by humans.[3][4] It is still used effectively by the San people in the Kalahari Desert, and by the Rarámuri people of Northwestern Mexico. "
