As I’ve said over and over, Sessions is doing much good work and taking strong actions related to a number of extremely important parts of the Trump agenda. He may indeed be a fine man and he is an effective one in policy matters.
Where I differ with him is on his rather rash act of quickly recusing himself from a broad swath of issues that has resulted in a serious time-suck of trouble for the Trump presidency. And I believe Trump is being truthful when he says that action (recusal) troubles him greatly. I do not wish to malign Sessions as a man. Men make mistakes. I think the quick action of recusal that he took was a mistake. And it’s been a long slog to get back on top of the issue as a result, but I do think that is finally happening. Unfortunately, it took a lot of energy from the administration and from Trump’s legal team to get to this point.

So ... I am admittedly out on a limb, but I still think the great work you point out Sessions is doing would be impaired if he had to answer day-by-day relating to the Russia/Trump hoax and his alleged role in it. The recusal offered a nifty separation so he could carry out the important blocking and tackling in the DoJ and let someone else (RR—vetted in advance for the role) take the Russia heat (from both sides, before it’s over).
And Sessions will be untainted (and fully cleared) when the Mueller thing finally ends and prosecutions of the black hats can finally begin. At that point I think we’ll see him fully back in the driver’s seat. As you pointed out, there are good political reasons why this will be after the 2018 elections at least, if not the 2020.
