The Scott English recording of "Brandy" only reached #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the winter of 1972. Later on, during the summer, the Looking Glass recording shot to #4. When Barry Manilow recorded his version and released it about two and a half years later, the name was probably changed to avoid confusion with the Looking Glass hit.
