Mel Gibson said in the movie’s audio commentary that he was only showing the milder side of things. It sort of makes the Spanish conquest sound justified if it ended all that.
“It sort of makes the Spanish conquest sound justified if it ended all that.”
Ah, yes, the “noble savage.” Torture, slavery, constant warfare, and human sacrifice. How wonderful.
Leftist revisionists want us all to believe that the “New World” was full of peaceful, tranquil Indians living in harmony with nature.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
European Christian Colonists brought Civilization to the New World and tamed it.
That the leftists want Christianity destroyed speaks volumes about them and their evil desires.
Of course it was justified. The people of the Americas were for the most part barbaric. Their lives were nomadic, living off the land, warring with other tribes and dying before they were 30.
For those who think living off of the land sounds great, watch the Survivor shows. It was often very cold, or very hot, food was scarce or abundant depending on the cycle.
Very little agriculture was going on in most tribes, so they followed the herds of wild animals and ate what grew naturally.
These people hadn’t even invented the wheel, and had eaten horses into extinction. The Spanish reintroduced horses to America, and the plains Indians finally had a mode of transportation.
Without transportation and agriculture, the civilizations were already marked for extinction.
