I honestly don't remember the screed, but probably yes. Revenge of the nerds was one of a long line of cultural "signals" that the weird and different were the good guys and the "normal" and successful were the bad guys.

That has been the message in our culture for a while now. No wonder being "normal" is now defined as hate.
