Not sure but speculation is that he has turned and is assisting in the takedown of bad actors.
If so he would certainly know where the bodies are buried.
i.e. He would be able to point investigators directly to locating the private e/m account locations and where to find the copies of draft e/m’s used if they died indeed user a commonly shared e/m address for draft communications.
