As the U.S. bishops discuss immigration, one bishop says the Church should punish Catholic government officials who enforce the president's immigration policies. Critics have noted no similar calls to punish pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage officials.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) began its biannual meeting on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The meeting opened with a special focus on immigration policies, and several bishops condemned the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants.
Bishop Edward Weisenburger of Tuscon, Arizona even suggested using canon law to punish those responsible for splitting up families. Possessing a degree in canon law, the bishop said, "Even though what I am saying may be risky or dangerous, I think it's important to point out that canonical penalties are there in place to heal first and foremost to heal."
He continued, "And therefore for the salvation of these people's souls, maybe it's time for us to look at canonical penalties."

Its not about canon law, its about your $$$$$!
GTH, Weisenburger.
This fag wants to ‘punish’ Americans who enforce our laws but doesn’t have a problem with abortion? This bastard needs to go to jail for violating the “dems’” separation of church and state thingy.
Save it.
Save who? I’m ok with helping the holy spirit save by spreading the truth.
> For the government to tax a church means they also have the right to tell the church what to do.
By that logic, then since they can tax citizens they have the right to tell citizens what to do. But the lawful Constitutional order is precisely the other way around.
Of course, if the types of taxes which would apply to organizations simply didn’t exist, there wouldn’t be a problem - churches could be tax free, as would every other organization, and the government wouldn’t be the decider as to whose religion was a real one and whose wasn’t.
By spreading the truth?
Well then, you must have something compelling up your sleeve. Go for it — I’m open-minded.
Amen to that!
Hey Father, how about going back and reading the Ten Commandments? Like the part about not stealing, about coveting thy neighbors wife and his home and his purse? And how about you just shut the f**k up?
Ha! Well put!
Strange that they dont ‘punish’ enforcers of ABORTION which murders something near 1 million humans a year (just in the US), dwarfing any possible ‘sorry feelings’ or unfortunate family partings.
Simple solution though - deport the whole family and then they WONT be broken up.
Understandable. It seems that if you agree with what is specifically written in Catholic doctrine, you are subject to canonical discipline LOL.
Of course, Id like somebody to show me where there is an obligation to believe with divine and Catholic Faith some political position (that is subject to prudential judgment) taken by an ordinary (or even a bishops conference). For that matter, I cant even see where religious submission of the intellect and will is required. But, as with most leftists, the law is what they say the law is and that law is subject to their temporal interpretation. Naturally, the same level of obedience is not required for actual matters of doctrine, such as abortion or sodomite marriage.
This photo illustrates what is wrong (IMHO) with the Church today:
(Taken from, of all places, the Jesuit Church, in downtown Vienna)
Note the glorious past...and the plain present in the foreground. Illustrates what leftists / modernists have been doing to the Church for the past 150 years or so.
Time to yank their tax exemption.
How about we punish the criminal political class? We can start with anyone in the demo_ratic party.
JoMa
Prime example of why so many attack the Catholic Church....always veering off into political areas that have nothing to do with carrying the Good News.....and now wanting to punish those who follow the law - incredible...
but despite all that is happening, I remain a Catholic....someday hopefully soon I'll find reason to get back to church...the church I remember as a young person...
Jesus, the Son of God, died for our sins. He then rose and if we believe in him, we will join him and have everlasting life. We are saved by grace, not works. His sacrifice was perfect, there’s no way to warm it.
Roman Catholic Church does not teach that. I do know some people who call themselves catholic, but I consider them Christian because of their beliefs.
In a real quick nutshell that is it. A public baptism as an adult is showing obedience and a public affirmation of one’s faith too. There’s a lot of things that the Roman Catholic Church does which are not of God.
Not many people are going to change their mind. I know this, but if just one does, that’s great.
Fine with me. All churches should lose the tax exemptions.
Well instead he should tell the illegals to go home and do it the right way.
The bishop sold his soul in order to make money helping illegal alien invaders. What an incredible anti-American loser. He should be exiled.
