You’re right. FBI didn’t connect Ted to the manifesto originally; his own family did that.

If you only have access to one half of the puzzle; it IS a bit difficult to put together.

Absolutely. FBI published the manifesto exactly for it to play out the way it did, i.e., for someone to recognize the style. That brought the “puzzle pieces” together.
