8 Awesome Cult Classics
PJ Media ^ | 13 June 2018 | Lauren Spagnoletti

Posted on 06/13/2018 2:37:56 PM PDT by Rummyfan

Good (and bad) movies come and go, but some films garner such a fierce, loyal following that they reach cult status. People watch them over and over and over again. They host parties to watch them some more. Midnight showings at movie theaters draw incredible crowds, and oftentimes, fans "act out" the scenes in front of the screen.

Actors who happened to have been in cult movies enjoy lifetimes of stardom (to one extent or another) and can probably make a living signing autographs at events and Comic-Con ad nauseam.

Are you a huge fan of any cult classic? Here are some favorites below. Weigh in with the ones you can't get enough of!

Vanishing Point
A Boy and His Dog
Tampopo (weirdo Japanese noodle-stand story as a Western)
Nova Seed (this one is an old school animation like heavy metal but done in 2016).
Harold and Maude
The original Gone In 60 Seconds, made by the guy who ran Hollywood’s junkyard. Running wide out on unclosed LA streets with no permit & knocking down light poles.

You might want to include the original “Death Race 2000,” one of the great, sleazy “B” pictures.

We’re the same age. I saw the TV commercial with Chuck Connors and Charlton Heston and went the next day.

In high school a friend and I saw Rocky Horror at a midnight showing when it first came out. At the end of the movie we were creeped out and agreed to not let anyone know we had seen it.

The Warriors is definitely a “Stop What You’re Doing and Watch” movie for me.

Haven’t seen the whole movie but have watched several video clips. Insanely weird.

Ah yes, I should have added that one BUT...

it's "Bullitt."

For decades it was the undisputed champ of car chases, but "Ronin" is close.

ha, I’ve never seen that one.

A Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Blood Simple
Pom Poko-1994 Studio Ghibli animated movie about Japanese Raccoon Dogs and their amazing scrotum/testicle magic. It’s a cultural Japanese thing; you wouldn’t understand.

The Blob, Steve McQueen’s first movie I think. Went to school with the Son of the man who made the movie. One day he brought pieces of the Blob to school. It was like silly putty in a way. Rolled into a ball it would bounce like crazy all over the place. I wish I had kept it but it had no notice of authenticity. Lol

Definitely a cult hit, but I think it was MST3K material.

“That was Pauline Kael, a movie critic for the NEW YORKER magazine”

As I said, a “media slug.” My facts on that, and other things, are straight.

“This move was and advertised as a COMEDY and a SATIRE!”

Which means nothing, no matter how many capital letters you use.

“I don’t know how old you are, but the COMMIE BAN THE BOMB crowd had been around and VERY loud, since we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki!”

That bears on my assertion in no way.

“Also, the crazy John Birch Society FLOURIDE CONSPIRACY ( they claimed that it was a “COMMIE PLOT” ! ) had been around since the early 1950s and really reached full steam in the mid 1950s-early 1960s and THAT was part of the movie as well.”

Yes, serving the anti-anti-communist narrative that sought to make ridiculous all claims that the USSR was engaged in espionage or intended us any harm. Thanks for supporting my point.

“Apparently, yes, I did hang out with a far better, more well informed, better educated bunch of kids and grown ups than you did...since we all understood that DOCTOR STRANGELOVE was just a funny satirical look at the time.”

One thing I’ve observed in my 6.7 decades on this planet is that whenever—whenever—somebody says that something is “just” something or other—just a book, just a movie, just a song—it is most definitely not “just” that.

I understand why my civil posts have driven you to mouth-frothing, hysterical, caps lock personal insult. To admit that I am right—which I am—would be to admit that you and all your bright, educated friends are dumb asses who totally missed it. You lack the moral courage even to look that one in the face.

I don’t care. Moral cowards are a dime a dozen in America today.

I’m done with this for now, though I’ll probably bring it up again.

The Warriors

Just a few that I’ll watch over and over whenever I find them on TV.

Yes! I was trying to recall that title for my list, but just kept “seeing” the scenes with the pods.

Oh you poor thing; I almost feel sorry for you, in your blind smugness...almost. In fact, you are as wrong and yes, benighted as Pauline Kael was.

Poo pooing facts that I posted, as somehow "meaningless", as well as being anti- anti-Commie proves three different things...1) that you have no factual knowledge at your command 2) you can't handle nor refute the facts I posted 3) that you are the one who is an hysteric, and worse.

Your pathetic lack of reading comprehension skills is almost as appalling as your inability to accept an opinion that differs from your own without replying with not only inaccurate and self aggrandizement, but also undeserved insults.

You CCPed part of my reply, which did NOT contain the word "just" and then complained and heaped calumny on me for using that word! LOL

I am probably the most blatantly outspoken anti-Commie who has ever lived, yet you claim that I am one.

You also claim that I have substantiated/supported your point, which is hysterically funny!

I have ALWAYS posted some words and phrases in CAPS; in order to highlight and/or intensify them; it's akin to a tonal voice inflection.

Unlike you, I didn't "insult" you; however, because you are the moral coward, as well as being an insufferable egotist, you refuse to even vaguely admit to yourself that you just might be wrong...which you are.

If you saw DOCTOR STRANGELOVE when it first came out, perhaps you weren't old enough and/or educated enough to really understand it. OTOH, since many decades have now passed, since then, you should have learned enough and matured enough, to now see it for what it always has been. Sadly, it seems that as the people who didn't hear the beginning of Orson Welles' radio drama, WAR OF THE WORLDS, who therefore truly believed that N.J. was being invaded by space aliens, you and your friends took DOCTOR STRANGELOVE to be a warning a la 1984, or a documentary; an opinion you still avidly cling to.

LOL...oh you'll respond to me/bring it all up again, because your poor widdle ego has been bruised and you are just an aged snowflake.
