Please sir, I want some more, is no longer a sentiment just for Oliver Twist in the orphanage. A new law in California limits how much water can be used by each household. Now their showers, how many flushes, and how often they can do their laundry will be under the watchful eye of the state government.
This from politicians who have pushed policies creating homeless and drug abuse crises throughout the state. They have now decided to clamp down on the use of the most basic needs of civilized living.
As the blog Zero Hedge put it, its now against the law to do laundry and shower on the same day in the Sunshine State, and theyre not exaggerating. Under the guise of addressing climate change, the new bill rations water to a degree that makes it impossible to maintain a healthy home environment.
Perhaps the state wants everyone to feel like the drug addicts living in Californias ever-expanding homeless tent cities?
Zero Hedge reported, Assembly Bill 1668 is where it gets personal. This establishes limits on indoor water usage for every person in California and the amount allowed will decrease even further over the next 12 years. The bill, until January 1, 2025, would establish 55 gallons per capita daily as the standard for indoor residential water use, beginning January 1, 2025, would establish the greater of 52.5 gallons per capita daily or a standard recommended by the department and the board as the standard for indoor residential water use, and beginning January 1, 2030, would establish the greater of 50 gallons per capita daily or a standard recommended by the department and the board as the standard for indoor residential water use
How do families feel about the rationing of water? CBS-13 in Sacramento asked

I need to understand this better. The most progressive state in the union has the most regressive policies?
Anyway, I visited California a few times. Something I noticed that apparently many in California miss is along their western border is something called an ocean. Now color me silly, but if you build say a 1/2 doze or so desalination facilities throughout the state, put in an infrastructure to move that water inland and connected it to your main water supplies, you no longer have a water crisis.
And the cost? Probably cheaper than, ummmmmm a train to nowhere.
Am I missing something here?
“Water...
The latest In a Long list!”
Food rationing not far away.
“I cant help but wonder how the rich folks with large lawns and gardens to water are being treated.”
There’s a carve out for them and swimming pools.
“Didnt I read that its legal to poop and pee in the street there?”
San Fransucko...world’s biggest outdoor latrine.
Say it, say it, SAY IT!
People are already leaving California.
The new law is aimed at water districts, not individuals, who can still take a shower and do laundry on the same day.
The new law will encourage water districts to fix leaks which the author is whining about.
This is fake news and it’s just as bad as when the Left does it.
“When you dont believe in a right to life, a right to the things that maintain life doesnt exist.”
This. That’s the heart of the matter. The Left regards human beings as things, animals or machines.

Take the money slated for high speed rail and build a bunch of desalination plants instead.

But, then how will pols hold power of the citizenry?? /semi-i
Florida is the Sunshine State. California is the Golden State.
This must be a ploy to rid CA of conservatives in order to put a lock on the elections for the Democrats.
Ah, but the Ecotopians object mightily to desalination. The problem is that in order to remove the salt, you create a concentrated brine and then you have to put that somewhere. Pumping it back into the sea changes the ecology at the outflow there so that is a no-no to those vigilant environmentalists. Then again they object to almost every other disposal 'solution' as well. Logically speaking, to them a pristine 'natural' environment overrides any other logic. Soylent Green, anybody?
I see where you are coming from and on the specifics of the law I agree but I disagree about you labeling the coverage as 'fake news'. Yes, the penalties apply to the water districts but they are regulatory bodies themselves. If they are fined, the fines will flow down (punny) to their customers for payment. At some point when all practical leakage is fixed (a big bill there by itself), there will still be this law on the books and ever tighter ways of monitoring compliance. Bureaucrats are all too likely to employ the latter even as they 'work' towards 'fixing' the leakages.
“Am I missing something here?”
No your not...
California liberals, please stay there...you wreck it...we don’t 3you to screw up SANE STATES!
It’s kind of funny really. I live in Idaho and flood irrigate my lawn every Tuesday in the summertime. I probably use 25 thousand gallons of water a week.
It’s not wasted though, it sinks into the aquifer instead of going down the river through OR and dumping into the ocean.
Strange thing about human nature. When government sets a maximum, it soon becomes a minimum. (Speed limits)
Yes. Yes you are.
Something hugely obvious to even a blind person--those facilities you propose would block the scenic view of the ocean, and we can't have that.
A new brand of environmentally, organic, renewable, sustainable sea salt!
Just charge $5.00/lb and you'll make the construction costs back in a snap!
