Actually, in Taxi Driver, it was Harvey Keitel who was pimping out Jody's character. DeNiro, the Taxi Driver character, in his psycho way, was chastely trying to save her.

In the movie that is...off screen he spent a lot of time with her, taking her around NYC and having lunch, etc.
