Prayers sent and I hope he gets well soon... but I must ask, what is a “gram positive” bacteria? First time I have heard that..

It’ one of the tests they use to categorize broad categories of bacteria. They can start treatment with a broad-spectrum antibiotic until the cultures and sensitivities narrow things down to the specific antibiotic/s that kill the bugs, keep them from replicating, however they work.

There is a general broad grouping of bacteria based on the make-up of their cell walls. It’s based on a staining technique to identify them. One type is Gram-positive and the other is Gram-negative.

I was glad that there were no Gram-negative, as they are more resistant to antibiotics. Of course, there are some nasties among the Gram-positive, too, such as MERSA.
