Good grief, what passes for journalism these days.

You could hardly find a more disjointed, disorganized bit of writing. It looks like a fourth grader wrote it.

Let’s hear from the pitbull apologist now. The right of you to own a breed of dog trumps the right of an eight-month-old child to not be mauled to death?
Sorry but this is no longer a debatable topic. We don’t tolerate cultures of death and we don’t tolerate dog breeds that exist to kill.

Dog that once belonged to police chief attacks North Georgia woman

ELLIJAY, Ga. — A North Georgia woman is attacked by a dog that once belonged to a local police chief.

Kay Starkey says she was out in the yard with her husband last week when one of the neighborhood dogs, a german shepherd named Hash, came up to her.

"Jim was standing right here petting his head so I just reached down and was petting his hind quarters," Kay Starkey said.

"The next thing I know he just jumped on me and started attacking me, he was on top of me," she said.

Kay says she was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

"I just remember blood pouring out of my head somewhere," Starkey said.

Doctors put 34 staples in her head and she has injuries on her face, mouth, and arm.

"I thought I was going to be gone with the way he was going after me," Starkey said.

A police report shows Kay's husband Jim told investigators the dog belonged to Tony Pritchett.

He's the Gilmer County Fire Chief and Andrews, North Carolina police chief.

The report says Tony Pritchett told investigators he recently moved out of the house near the Starkey's after he and his wife divorced.

Since the dog spends most of its time at another neighbor's house, the report says Tony assumed the neighbors owned the dog now.

Woman files $2 million lawsuit against Wisconsin police department after dog attack

GLENDALE, Wisconsin -- A woman filed a civil lawsuit against four members of the Glendale Police Department. The suit filed in federal court is demanding $2 million.

She claims the investigation into a dog attack that took place in March 2017 was not handled properly.

The suit claims the woman was attacked by a 3-year-old Presa Canario
and suffered injuries to her head, back and wrist that required more than 140 medical treatments,
including 11 staples in her scalp, puncture wounds on her back and an injured wrist, which needed three surgeries to fix.

A police report from the incident claims that her hand was "completely covered in blood and her hair appeared to be blood soaked."

The woman also claimed the attack resulted in emotional trauma.

The dog qas temporarily quarantined for 10 days. The woman also claims that police were not aware of procedure for dog attacks.

The woman no charges were filed in the incident, and when she called repeatedly for an update in the investigation,
a sergeant told her that "f you don't like the way we handle this get yourself an attorney and sue us."

Both the Glendale police chief and the city's attorney declined to comment, citing pending litigation.

Glendale City Attorney John Fuchs issued the following statement.

"She went into the dog's yard and approached the dog. Most of these processes pertain to dogs at large,
not to people who enter upon the premises of another and engage the dog."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Need more info.
She went into the dog's yard. Was she familiar to the dog? Was the dog male or female? Intact? Tied up? Anyone else present in the yard?
I'll attempt to research and find additional info...unless one of the other posters on this thread would care to do it instead?
Three children injured in feral dog attacks in UP’s Sitapur
The dog menace returned to haunt Sitapur district after a short breather on Tuesday, when feral canines mauled two children and a teenager in Rausa area.
Fortunately, nobody was killed in the attacks.
Sitapur divisional forest officer Anirudh Pandey confirmed the attacks.
“As per information received, three minors – identified as Kajal (8), Shakib Ali (6) and Mehtab Khan (15) – were injured in separate attacks by feral dogs.
They prima facie appear to be canine attacks,” he said.
The injured were rushed to the primary health centre immediately after the attacks, and later released after administration of first aid.
At least 14 children have died due to dog attacks in Sitapur so far this year, with eight of the fatalities occurring in May.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath also took stock of the situation.
The district administration has asked the officials concerned to look into the fresh attacks and take adequate measures to stop them.
Incidentally, a leopard had injured six people in Rausa last Friday. Wildlife officials are trying to capture the animal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Most of the dog bite fatalities occurring in my neck of the woods are caused by packs of Husky/sled type dogs.
They are lost or abandoned and form roaming feral packs.

Dog removed from Hampton home after attacking human, killing dog

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- A neighborhood in Hampton said they have been living in fear. A dog in the neighborhood is responsible for attacking three pets and killing one of them.
Community members said they called Hampton Animal Control, but nothing was done until Tuesday when they came and picked the dog up.
Several calls had to be made to the city manager and city council. “This should have never happened, my dog had a lot of life left in him,” said Joe Stillwell, who lives on Alcove Drive.

Stillwell was walking his Jack Russel Terroir, T-Bone, past his neighbor’s house on Saturday. That's when the pit bull broke through its backyard fence. According to Stillwell, T-Bone didn’t stand a chance.

“It was as vicious and as heinous as anything you could possibly imagine. He basically ripped my dog in half, crushed his lungs, punctured his skull,” said Stillwell.
“I punched the dog. My hands are still swollen. I kicked the dog. I couldn’t get the dog to release.”

T-Bone’s injuries were so severe he had to be put to sleep.

Neighbor Richard York said it was the second time the dog broke through the fence. The first time was in February when York’s wife, and his two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, were attacked in their own backyard.

“As my wife was carrying the second dog into the house, the pit bull turned on her. Bit her on her left leg, knocked her to the ground,” said York.

Neighbors said Hampton Animal Control was called again, and again, but nothing was done.

“It’s very disappointing, sad, and disconcerting that T-Bone had to die before anything was taken seriously,” said York.

Neighbors said even this latest attack took three days before anything took place.

“I don’t feel that they are protecting us as citizens very well. If they can ignore something like this,” said neighbor Patty Johnson.

The owner of the pit bull, who has four young children, reluctantly turned the dog over to animal control.

“Kids are in the car crying right now because their favorite dog is being taken away because what happened to be a freak accident,” said Jessica Person.

Person said she never saw her dog as a threat to the neighborhood.

“Everybody else saw her as a threat but me, my kids, and anybody who came to the house, saw her as like the most loving person,” said Person.

Hampton Animal Control declined to speak to 13NewsNow. The fate of the dog will be decided in court.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Principles of Responsible Dog Ownership...
CONTAIN, Control, Maintain, Train and Socialize.
These folks failed to CONTAIN their dog.
No, Jessica, it wasn't a "freak accident". It was the direct result of you failing to properly contain your dog.
I feel somewhat sorry for you and your kids, but you are the author of your own misfortune.
Even after the first instance, you failed to ensure it wouldn't happen again.
Fencing is a good way to contain your dog but it must be tailored to be adequate for the particular dog. In this case it obviously wasn't.
Rigorous and effective Animal Control response is a necessity.
Too often a lackadaisical response by Animal Control results in being called back later to deal with a tragedy
Dog ripped from owner's arms and killed
SHARON Barber is scarred for life after her beloved dog Panda was savagely mauled at her feet during their morning walk.
The 15-year-old Maltese cross died in her arms having been torn apart by an off-leash dog.
Ms Barber told the Chronicle she was walking Panda on Bryant St, Maryborough, when a husky appeared and ran at them.
"I picked Panda up, spun around and said 'no' to the dog but it jumped up and grabbed her," Ms Barber said.
"It grabbed her and it started chewing at her neck at my feet while I was screaming."
I’m sick of Pits—crazy people want a “killer” dog and that’s what they get. I’m even more sick of children and pets being killed by these monsters. In law lives next to a Pit owner— worse yet, the elderly lady who owns the dog can barely control it.
The only real way we’re going to get rid of them is when people start seeing Pit Bulls killing their owners on a regular basis—which considering how people always want to “upgrade” to meaner and even more dangerous Pit Bulls—shouldn’t take much longer.
THE PIT BULL LOBBY
Excerpt from Pit Bulls – Five Part Series , La Presse, Montreal
Investigative report on the Montreal pit bull ban and the influence of the pit bull lobby
By Marie-Claude Malboeuf, August 13, 2017
English translation: plus.lapresse.ca
French: Qui Veut Sauver Les Pitbulls
Also see: http://blog.dogsbite.org/2016/10/montreal-pit-bull-ban-veterinary-report-pit-bull-lobby.html
WHO IS PULLING THE STRINGS? The US pet industry is worth 16 billion dollars. Without pit bulls to sell, to rescue, to rehabilitate, to care for and to feed, a lot of people would see their revenues plunge, denounced Jeffrey Borchardt, who lost his baby when he was torn from the arms of his babysitter by two pit bulls. Since this tragedy, the American DJ and other victims have worked to expose the gears of the powerful pit bull promotion lobby. Who pulls the strings? Portrait of a tightly woven network.
Level one: Financing source
ANIMAL FARM FOUNDATION
Run by an American millionaire, Animal Farm Foundation has for its motto: “Equality for pit bulls.” The pressure group devotes itself entirely to combatting against any regulation targeting its dogs. After inheriting a fortune from her father, Jane Berkey, who also owns a literary agency, turned over at least $6 million to her group, $2.85 million in 2013, according to government records. She pays 9 employees (one of whom, the director, makes more than $100,000 a year) and finances numerous groups that share her philosophy.
Level two: The researchers
NATIONAL CANINE RESEARCH COUNCIL (NCRC)
To produce studies, AFF bought a private research body in 2007. The acquisition was kept secret until the victims’ group Dogsbite discovered this during litigation. The National Canine Research Council (NCRC) was created by a veterinary technician, Karen Delise. Neither an academic researcher nor a veterinarian, she self proclaims as the “greatest national expert on deaths caused by dog bites.” An “action fund” permits the organization to engage in lobbying, according to a government registration. The NCRC is linked to several advisors and consultants. This is the case for Gary Patronek, the veterinarian who co-signs (NCRC) studies, and in the case of the Page ~ 16 former chief animal control officer of Calgary, Bill Bruce, who was still employed in that civil service job at the time he accepted his association with NCRC. The agency already had consultant Glen Bui on board, whose heavy criminal record can be found online (illegal weapon possession, obstruction of justice, domestic violence and harassment). Still, thanks to millions from Animal Farm, the NCRC finances like-minded researchers—notably on the issue of identification of pit bulls, information available on their website.
Level 3: Publication
JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (JAVMA)
The American Veterinary Medical Association publishes NCRC studies in its journal. On its own website it proposes sample letters [for readers to write] contesting any law aimed at pit bulls. Moreover, its site has a link to AFF. The Association added the following introduction to a famous 2000 study: “In contrast to what has been reported in the news media, the data contained within this report CANNOT be used to infer any breed-specific risk for dog bite fatalities. [To reach that conclusion] it would be necessary to know the numbers of each breed currently residing in the United States. Such information is not available.” Even if they are opposed to a breed ban, for practical reasons amongst others, the authors of the study—seasoned in the ministry for Health and government institutions—nevertheless concluded: “In spite of potential bias and the lack of data on the canine population, pit bulls seem to be implicated in 42% of fatal tragedies. We do not believe that in the United States, the proportion of pit bulls amongst the dog population even comes near to approaching 42%. We therefore believe that the disproportion of deaths associated with pit bulls is real and escalating.”
Level 4: The political lobby
BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY
The studies of the AFF network allow [lobby] groups to put pressure on politicians. They propose regulations [they favor] and try to overturn those they dislike. Sometimes with success. The central facts about Best Friends Animal Society are that it manages $60 million and has for its motto: “Save them all,” for it is opposed to all euthanizing of animals. Its senior advocate, Ledy VanKavage sits on the board of AFF. The website of Best Friends Animal Society indicates that she paid an ex-economist from the tobacco Page ~ 17 industry, John Dunham, to create a fiscal calculation scheme designed to advise governments on the cost of breed banning. [Dunham’s] calculations were attacked in the Texas Tribune in 2011. The following year, before a referendum on pit bulls in Miami-Dade, a government committee discovered that the real costs incurred in targeting dogs was 65 times lower than those claimed by Dunham. “With all its money, the lobby [can afford to] finance lawyers and harass elected officials. And if it doesn’t get what it wants, it threatens to finance the campaign of their political opponents!” denounces Angela Provo, whose son Beau Rutledge was killed by a family pit bull.
Level 5: The distributors
THE ANIMAL CARE INDUSTRY
All the lobby studies are abundantly distributed by animal-based companies like shelters, breeders, trainers, etc. In Montreal, they are [distributed] by, amongst others, the SPCA, whose mission is to avoid euthanizing dogs and whose two most senior executives are themselves owners of pit bulls. On social media, pit bull owners deploy these studies relentlessly and accuse all their opponents of ignorance. Certain more aggressive ones have even threatened the mayor of Quebec City with death. Unfortunately, some militant activists have come to a tragic end, killed by their own fighting dogs—notably Darla Napora, at the time 8 months pregnant (California, 2011) and Rebecca Carey (Georgia, 2012)
