Best guess consensus about the D5 is the avalanche ratings.
Q referred to a snowball coming downhill, then later several references to D5, highest category of avalanche.
I think it has multiple meanings, and a D5 overhanging ridge of Snow and ice about to sweep down on the DS makes sense!
(Now, any idea on the chess board in post 869?)
