I thought the show has been pretty good so far. They show Soviet Union for what it was. It hasn't been poisoned by political correctness.
I have no idea what this last episode holds. I just like guessing these things. I think that Philip is going to be captured or killed, and Elizabeth and Paige are going to successfully escape to Mother Russia and they are going to be struck with reality of what they have done in the last scene.
The above is not a spoiler, because I have no idea what is actually going to happen.
What’s the year? Early 1980s? OK. The Russians, then, will meet with Donald Trump, in New York, to lay the groundwork for his eventual defeat of Hillary in 2016. They will then change their name to Olsen and retire to a small farm in Iowa and raise pigs.
Stan will commit suicide...
I've heard that's exactly the way it happened!
I agree that Renee is a sleeper, but I don’t think she would help Elizabeth because Elizabeth has refused to carry out orders and has told Gorbachev’s people what the KGB was up to. It would be more likely that she will try to kill Elizabeth, because if Elizabeth and Philip fall into US hands alive, it will be very bad for the Soviets.
The finale will be a thrill ride, with Stan working to chase them down and Philip and Elizabeth trying to get out of dodge with their go bag. Most of it will be chase, and at the very end, we will see if they get out or not. Or if they choose to move to Topeka with new identities.
Watching this makes me realize how much the technology changes of the past 30 years have taken our freedom to move around the country when someone is looking for you. Back then, you could buy a car for cash, there were no video cams every 5 feet, you were not being tracked by your phone, credit cards were not instantly part of the net (there was no net, and most places had those swipe devices with carbon copy receipts that were not part of a network). It was so much easier to be anonymous.
Yeah, I thought it was stupid of her to tell her boss what she had done. If you wanted to warn her, for old times’ sake, wait til you are safe and get her a message, coded of course. Smarter just to not say anything at all, and watch your back, because the KGB will definitely want to silence them.
Their friends will work at CNN, and their daughter will be Deputy AG under Obama.
It has been pretty true to life so far, which I like. I was doing foreign relations in Congress at the time, and my undergrad in International Politics from Georgetown was basically entirely about the cold war and the Soviet Union. So watching this show brought back many memories and events that I was following closely at the time. Of course, when the Soviet Union imploded, all that education was pretty much worthless.
A couple of things lately struck me as very unrealistic. The 21 year old college intern for Senator Nunn who has inside information about that Senate office is a joke. Interns meet the head honcho when they get there and when they leave, and if they run across him, or even the AA, they won’t likely even get a nod. They are sent to their own little room and work on organizing constituent letters and updating files and getting coffee. They sure as hell don’t have the ability to waltz into the State Department, and then put boxes in offices there. “Hi I’m an intern for Senator Nunn”. “So?”. They would never work on anything substantive.
Second, shooting the KGB agent in front of the Soviet negotiators. Shooting the negotiator would never have happened. That would have been so huge I can’t even imagine it. It could have started WW3. KGB was not that crazy. Even Elizabeth shooting the person who was trying to shoot the Soviet would have been a huge news event for weeks.
There were a few other things like that, but overall, it was way more true to life than anything else you could watch on TV. A great show.
Yeah, I agree with you. Philip’s change of heart doesn’t excuse what he did during his career.
I don't know, but I think that Elizabeth's boss became Angela Merkel.
I read that’s how they really did it. Surprise with no goodbyes.
Maybe they could join the Trump Campaign at the behest of the DOJ/FBI?
Like to see it but you have to pay for every episode On-Demand.
“Philips change of heart doesnt excuse what he did during his career.”
Big X on Philip’s back is he murdered Stan’s partner, Chris Amador. Amador was dating Martha until she ended the relationship. Then Philip (Clarke) slid in. Amador became jealous and began stalking Martha. After a sleepover, Amador confronted Philip and a fight ensued. Philip transported the gravelly wounded Amador to a safe sight. Initially thinking Amador had acted officially, he was treated by the Jennings until they were satisfied his interest was personal. He died and his death was sloughed as the work of a rogue KGB officer. In turn, that led to Stan killing a minor KGB officer.
Only hope for Philip having an afterlife is to either return to Russia or fad deep into the woodwork somewhere in the US. Elizabeth appears a goner. Do hope Henry ends up in better straights, witness protection new ID or some such, than such an experience would allow. Paige has two options; be taken in by Aunt Claudia or in some fervor, opt to go out in some blaze. Stan? He will either end up dead or with long-term undercover instincts coming into play, continue with a relatively intact career. Either way, untainted Renee will dig in deeper. After all, the show must go on.
A bit of trivia; Amador was portrayed by Maximiliano Hernandez. Hernandez was subsequently featured as Silvio, the cartel cop who was murdered in Sicario.
They already told us what was gonna happen to Paige.
Her greatest fear was being alone. Whatever occurs, she winds up alone somewhere. kgb may try to kill her but either elizabeth gets her to safety or she does it herself.
My guesses for what they are worth, Philip barely escapes and gets somewhere where he can reunite with his other son. Elizabeth dies somehow, not giving up, last stand/cornered somewhere. Not sure if soviets get her or fbi.
Afterwards, Stan is told by Oleg how elizabeth and philip helped to prevent gorby from being overthrown to their own personal detriment.
Actually this year she is having problems with regret and remorse. Its messing wth her nhead, andmits why she wouldnt kill that one soviet negotiator and saved his butt by taking out the replacement assassin.
He killed him but not on purpose. Amador pulled the knife on him and was gonna kill him first.
My favorite TV show is going away. Bah!
Stan’s girlfriend is a sleeper I’ll bet. The last scene will be that revelation.
Paige has a change of heart and slinks away into society.
Elizabeth kills her husband and is caught by the FBI.
What will happen? It will be replaced by another show.
Well you were right about Paige.
Well it’s over now. Good show. I half expected Elizabeth to be killed by the KGB for what she did, but I noticed who met them in Russia.
The final scene with the couple overlooking mother Russia was cold and not just Th e weather. They completely moved on from their children by agreeing they would get used to it. It confirmed that they were raised or brainwashed to be cold hearted, that nothing was more important than their country, including their kids. Ironically, their American children showed warmth and caring nurtured by America. Quite a contrast.
