Just asked one of our two Echos. First “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin and then “Power and Glory” by John Philip Sousa.

Alexa gave me the playlist ‘America the Beautiful’ - ‘God Bless the USA’ - Lee Greenwood,’Courtesy of the Red, White’ & Blue’ - Toby Keith, ‘Only in America’ - Brooks & Dunn. Huh, classic country? It’s giving me playlists from Amazon Music. I also got the playlist ‘Celebrate Independence’ Ow! James Brown, ‘Freedom’ - George Michael. WTH? ‘Celebrate’ - Kool & the Gang. Then went to the Amazon Music app on my Kindle Fire - just the usual home page stuff. Neither of these 2 playlists show up. There is a ‘long weekend playlists’ on the marquee banner. Nope, no patriotic music there, just the usual genre playlists. Next, I did a search for ‘patriotic’ & got search results ‘patriotic music & military songs,’ ‘patriotic songs,’patriotic music of America,’ ‘patriotic instrumental music,’ etc. Better, right? So I went back & asked Alexa to play using the search result key words. Got beautiful piano instumental of ‘God Bless America/My Country Tis of Thee/The Star Spangled Banner.’ Now we’re talkin’. Alexa apparently doesn’t get patriotic patriotic.

What a generic request for “patriotic music” gets you is going to be judged on YOUR perception of music based on your age, cultural background, life experiences and a whole bunch of other stuff. You might as well ask it to play “good music.”

Honestly, it’s a poorly phrased request.
