People often miss the point at which one force turns from defense to offense. The people who are wondering about this really haven’t thought about what has been happening the past 10 days. Trump has transitioned from defense to offense. He’s hitting them at their weak points and the blitz is on.

Mueller is in a weak position that is getting weaker by the day. Mueller is extreme jeopardy, his life could quickly become Hell if he doesn’t do the right thing right now, right here. Trump is giving him one path out of Hell. One line of retreat that can be cut off at any moment. Mueller can interview Trump and then openly exonerate him, or Mueller can forfeit the rest of his life. His choice is that stark as the blitzkreig rolls over his position.

I agree with you, Mueller's position is weak. Trump has bigger fish to fry, and wants this wound up yesterday. But it needs to wind up in such a way that it dies.

Mueller's best play is to fold up his tent and call it a day, giving The Donald a clean bill of health. Maybe take down Manafort to save face. He can only hope to save his deep state masters if, after concluding his farce, somehow things just go back to the way they were. I'm sure the media will cooperate in this effort. They are getting worried too.

I think not, though. They really have no option but to fight to the death. The pushback has now reached D5 status and there's no stopping it.

Interesting thoughts you have there on Trump moving from defense to offense. I think, however, that any kind of threat made to Mueller (like making an “either/or” statement to him) could be not only illegal but could flip it back to defense. What if Rudy is just messing with Mueller by saying Trump would sit for an interview but then put restrictions and conditions to limit the scope? Might be safer strategy with better optics. I actually have considered that Rudy and Trump are tag - teaming.
