Storybook season that started with tragedy is four wins from championship
They talked about it ahead of time, just in case. The Vegas Golden Knights didn't have a captain. They were the epitome of a team. So if they defeated the Winnipeg Jets and won the Western Conference, who would accept the Clarence Campbell Bowl?
It had to be defenseman Deryk Engelland, because this storybook season has been about more than becoming the greatest expansion team of all-time, more than establishing the NHL in a new market and more than giving Las Vegas its first major league sports team.

Best expansion team ever.
Healing? Oh yeah, there was a big shooting in Vegas a few months ago! For some reason the press was amazingly uncurious about it and stopped reporting on it after a week.
The Penguins touched it in 91, 92, 09, 16 and 17 and won. The only time they had it and didn’t touch it was 08. They lost to Detroit.
Considering that the bookies are sweating bigtime now that the USSC has legalized sports betting.
With expansion comes new traditions.
I heard the bookies have insurance against big payouts, given the nature of their business. Is this true, that they have insurance policies against such huge payouts?
The take the cast offs from the league (in a manner of speaking) and get to the finals.
GO KNOIGHTS !
Fleury wasn’t considered a playoff failure in recent years. During Bylsma’s tenure, yes. (I still hate that guy.) He was considered a Conn Smyth candidate last year before Sullivan changed goalies permanently. Anyway his departure wasn’t because the Pens didn’t want him but because he (rightly so) wanted to be a number one goalie. Trades were explored then he decided the Vegas team was OK to go to. It was his call.
What a Bozo (Dale Tallon) for a GM. I couldn’t believe they didn’t keep those forwards. You’ve got to feel for Florida fans.
“It may even go down as the Finals with the lowest TV ratings in history.”...
Up until yesterday, we were getting the Stanley Cup playoff games on Dish Network, we DID NOT get the final game between LV and Winnipeg, which REALLY pissed me off. Hope the remaining games show up on TV.
NBC hits the ratings jackpot with the Vegas Golden Knights - Forbes.....
That’s the ONLY THING NBC does well, their political bias is too great to ignore.
It was on NBC’s national feed. Did your local affiliate substitute programming?
Agreed, outside hockey NBC blows. They’re not even great at that. What possesed them to hire ex-goons like Mike Milbury or the ultra creepy Pierre McGuire.
Why would a big hockey fan not watch a Cup final featuring the Lightning and Golden Knights? These are two teams with incredible speed, but relatively small, with crazy good skills. Both can be relentless on the forecheck while making you pay for turnovers. This match up would be the opposite of the conventional wisdom on what it takes to win in the playoffs. But you're not going to watch? SMH.
The thought of a Tampa-Winnipeg final had execs at NBC out on window ledges.
Dale Tallon once lived down the street from me.
His wife was very nice.
Bettman's also working on pulling the Caps across the finish line but Holtby and three of their lines aren't cooperating.
Hockey people do seem nice. Matt Cooke is a nice guy too although most people think of him for the bad stuff he did on the ice.
My brother knew Marc-Andre Fleury’s nanny from when they lived in Pittsburgh. According to her he is every bit as nice a guy as you’ve heard he is.
Finally, the long suffering Golden Knights fans get to experience their team in the Stanley Cup Finals!
