But NOTHING will ever beat Secretariat's unbelievable run at the Belmont Stakes in 1973, a race where the horse outran the entire field by 31 lengths. It would be like the rest of the field was driving a 1980's economy car while the winner was driving a 2018 Honda Civic Type-R hatchback.

I still tear up watching this horse run.
When he won the Belmont, I was 12 years old... Working temporarily at the Greater Houston Gun Club... During the state trap shoot competition. I was a trap loader. During a break, I walked though the clubhouse, where the Belmont was on TV. The men gathered round were cheering and yelling.... At first. But, as Big Red pulled away, they got quieter and quieter. By the end, everyone was silent.... In disbelief. I’ll never forget the old, old man who looked at me, with tears of his own, and said “Son, you’ll NEVER forget the history you just saw.”
He was right.

Each year watching the Triple crown races, I find it fascinating to compare Secretariat’s winning time to that of the new winner and then calculate how many lengths he beat them by. Truly a Super Horse.

I was there, Belmont Stakes in 1973. I was just going through my safe looking at the button's and other stuff from that day. I'm hoping my grand-kids can profit from my day at the park, I know I made in excess of $75.00 on a bet that day.
Big spender ($2.00 / {two dollar} window bet @ the track) from the coast. /s
