Margot Kidder, the actress who played Lois Lane in "Superman," died Sunday in Montana ... TMZ has learned.
Margot was at her home when she passed away, according to the spokesperson at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, MT. The cause of death is unknown at this point.
Bruce Becker, the Park County Attorney, tells TMZ ... an unknown person called police to report Margot was unconscious and not breathing. Police responded and found her dead. The death is now under investigation.
Margot starred opposite Christopher Reeve in 1978's "Superman," and also in the 3 sequels. She continued acting right up until this year, taking small roles in TV shows and movies -- but also had stage roles ... including "The Vagina Monologues" on Broadway. She reportedly had 2 more roles yet to be released.
Margot had a very public battle with bipolar disorder for years. During her struggle she was briefly homeless in 1996. Margot became an advocate for mental health after that incident.
She'd been married 3 times, although she'd been single since the '80s.
Margot is survived by a daughter.

“Curse? She was 69, for cryin out loud................”
Yes it is a curse...it’sad when children die.
Back in the mid 1990s when her mental health issues made the news, somebody I knew at work at the time recalled an instance some years earlier in the 1980s when he went to a rock concert and saw and recognized her a short distance away from where he was sitting and she was very striking and attractive in her appearance even in casual dress. Kind of one of those “Holy sh$t, it’s...” moments, I guess.
Kate Bosworth was pretty weak in the 2000’s, Amy Adams is a little better now..
and Valerie Perrine!
More like the curse of Brian de Palma .....a real asswhole
I worked with an Indiana Farm boy in the Summer of 1992. This was at a Mountain retreat. He was a big, blond headed handsome guy. Also likeable.
I once mentioned that movie to him. He said that it was basically true tho they changed a lot of things. He also said he had played in all the gyms they used in the movie.
And stars always die in threes. Unless, of course, they pass away singly, two at a time, or in some other configuration.
She was good in Superman and the Reincarnation of Peter Proud (w/Michael Sarrazin). However, she played a horrid, incestuous mother in an episode of Law and Order SVU.
Conversely, of all the actresses who have portrayed Lois Lane, only three have passed that I am aware of: Kidder, Noel Neill, and Joan Alexander (who voiced her on the radio and in cartoons), and the latter two were well into their 90s. If there's a curse, then like that of Tutankhamen's tomb, it seems quite benevolent.
RIP Ms. Kidder.
Kate Bosworth was hot but I didn’t really like her portrayal.
There has never been a good Lana Lang tho Kristin Kreuk was the prettiest.
Well, at least she wasn’t exploited by Dr. Phil the way the dementia-afflicted Shelley Duval was recently, as far as I know.
“You’ve got me? Who’s got YOU?!?”
