I was big into building model cars as a teen in the 60s and 70s. Used to customize them by swapping parts from other kits. Also used putty to modify bodies. Kept extra parts in a box which I called my “plastic junkyard”.
Slot cars too was a favorite hobby of mine. My brother gave me the idea of installing car bodies from model kits onto the metal slot car chassis. This opened up a world of great car body choices.

I think you and your boys would enjoy the motor museum. It’s HUGE, many European makes and assorted curiosities. Lots of gorgeousness. They’re currently featuring some old Harley motorcycles. Closed on tue and wed’s.

Count me amongst the kids who spent hours making models of several of these cars. Wouldn’t trade those times for any video game the kids spend time on nowadays.

My brother gave me the idea of installing car bodies from model kits onto the metal slot car chassis. Me too! Everybody had a Chapparel but mine had a '65 GTO body on the chassis!

I put the body of a ‘29 Model A pickup truck on a slot car chassis. Only problem was the model car bodies are more delicate than the ones made for going around the track and frequently crashing.
