“If the priests were doing their jobs properly, they would encourage the parisioners to vote for pro-life Republicans who would represent their interests.”
Catholic here. (capital C)
I only that were so. It’s been my experience that if you set out to attend Mass at a different parish every week, you’ll wear out a set of tires in a year before you hear five sermons pounding on pro-life tenets. There’s one time during the liturgical year that you will probably hear this talked about, and that’s right before the Annual March for Life. Otherwise...pretty much crickets.
The Church is afraid of their own shadow. It’s been playing footsie for so long with the government they’re scared to death of losing that 501(c)(3) rating. I long for some bomb-throwing from the pulpit, and it’s just not there.
The best pro-life hard line sermon I’ve heard was delivered by a big ol’ regular working family guy deacon just prior to the 2012 election. He even gave the congregation a heads up about the subject matter before his delivery pretty much telling them it was going to be offensive to some. (Pretty sad when pro-life subject matter delivered in a Catholic church is offensive.)
He was great, and I took him aside after Mass and thanked him for it. He told me it was long overdue.
The next best one was from our quite young pastor. He’s a regular guy and pretty feisty. I think of him as a throw-back to the street tough Irish and Italian immigrant boys that went into the seminary in the early 20th century.
His sermon was delivered right before the 2016 election and pretty much to the point: can’t be Catholic and be for abortion and candidates that support it. No way to reconcile that.
About three weeks after the pastor’s great sermon, he came over to my sister’s house to hang with our family for a few hours for a reason I cannot remember. I got a couple of Yuenglings in him, and asked him about that sermon. He told me there’s some “constraint” coming from the Diocese on how rowdy we can get about certain things. He was not real proud of having to admit that.
It’s no wonder the Church is losing members left and right. I’ve been struggling a little myself on whether to stay. But that would be conceding to The Plan: muck up the militant teachings of the Church and drive good men and women away...the real key driving the MEN away.
IMO if the church is to survive the onslaught it will take good people to stand firm shoulder to shoulder It’s not just the Catholic Church whose foundation is being attacked. With a central control figure (the Pope) it’s just more obvious.
Great post. Im on the verge of leaving my parish, they closed our Catholic school and a convent. Then opened up the convent to at least 45 Migriants a week to stay until transported to some sanctuary city. Bleeding heart Bishop making it happen. Its so sick the Church along with false Pope Francis is truly embracing Communism. Helping rats to gain complete control brining on the total destruction of morals and the demise of our once proud nation. Its so sad and hard to take. We MUST turn out in droves the complete a massive red wave this November. This is why I like Q he gives us hope, helps to guide us to the truth, helps to not forget whats so important in this conflicted nation.
Oh. GOD. THAT is the crystal KEY. Driving the MEN away.
Its in the water. EVE is loose in the world and particularly in Western culture to reduce men intellectually, spiritually, verbally and effectively isolate men. Ive opined that I see a flavor of it, here, on occasion. Rampant in the Church, Public Education and Academia. My tag line probably works, here.
Thanks, Guy.
