How Richard Nixon learned of John F Kennedy’s death
Richard Nixon found out his former election rival had been killed while waiting at a red light in New York.
When Stephen Hess arrived at Richard Nixon’s Manhattan apartment on the afternoon of November 22, 1963, the former vice president was visibly shaken.
Mr Nixon, who had so narrowly lost the presidency to John F Kennedy three years earlier, had just heard the news that had stunned the United States and the world: the president had been killed on a Dallas street.
“I was the first person Nixon could talk to, and I’d say he was shaky,” Mr Hess told The Daily Telegraph. “I assumed it was, sort of, ‘there but for the grace of God go I,’ after all he had lost the presidency by just a few votes to John Kennedy. But it was more complicated than that.”*************************************************
By a coincidence of history, Mr Nixon had been in Dallas earlier that day but took off to return to New York before the shooting took place.****************************************************************************
“When he got off the plane at LaGuardia airport in Queens, he took a taxi into Manhattan. It was then, at a red light, that the driver of another taxi shouted, ‘Hey did you hear that Kennedy’s been assassinated?’ That’s how Richard Nixon heard about it,” said Mr Hess.
According to several people, Nixon attended the same meeting of big wigs as LBJ the night before the assassination.
Just remembered another thing I read several places, Nixon actually contacted Howard Hughes for funding for Operation 40, during the election, since he thought he would beat Kennedy.
That money was used to set up Assassination teams with CIA, Mafia, and Cuban refugees. Some people believe that it was one of these teams that killed JFK.
This also played a role in the Watergate burglary. The head of the DNC Campaign at that time had ties to a law firm, that CIA was afraid knew about the formation of Op. 40.
So their CIA spy in the Campaign/Nixon’s WH wanted to bug the phones to make sure whether DNC knew or not.
Can it be proven? Not with the info I have access to. However, I did always wonder why Nixon wanted to bug DNC, because it was obvious that the DEMS weren’t gonna beat him-unless something like this became known.
