HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman is suing United Airlines, claiming she was kicked off a flight out of Houston because someone complained that she had a "pungent odor."
The mother and her children were on a flight to San Francisco in 2016.
The suit says a man in business class told the flight crew that she smelled, and he was not comfortable flying next to her.
According to the lawsuit, the woman, who is Nigerian, believes she was booted because of her race.
She and her children were put on another flight five hours later. United has not commented on this lawsuit.

I still shudder when I remember the odor of certain persons after PE and how they would put on cheap perfume instead of showering.
I flew from Frankfurt to Kiev sitting next to a stunningly beautiful young Ukrainian woman, and the plastic grocery bag full of sauerkraut that she brought with her.
Why do you assume everyone from Nigeria is poor? I’ll give you a hint “oil money”. (When it can be found) Why they even have a paved road or two and get this, running water.

If she is like some turd worlders I have come across she prefers to revel in her “natural essence”. Most of them come from countries where hot running water is only available to the elites. The masses wash off with a little cool water and that is it.
I had a Russian immigrant I was training for a trucking company.
He spoke pretty good English and just a little conversation got the point across.
Biggest problem I had with him was the fact he practically bathed in cologne.
I did get him to tone It down to an acceptable level. He was in love with American tp, soap, aftershave, cologne and mint toothpaste.
He said those things were unknown to the average Russian.
He did show me a bar of Soviet soap.
It felt like a piece of brick and had a slightly off odor to it.
He would buy soap, toothpaste, deodorant and other things by the case and ship them to his family in Russia.
A lot that we take for granted is a luxury in much of the world.
That used to drive me bonkers. Along with What time it be?”, “Borrow me some money.”(Usually a “case” quarter”.)and “Let me hold it.” And I learned early on not to ask for a piece of paper. Nope, it’s a sheet of paper unless you want a tiny torn off corner.
And yeah, Axe do stink.
We spent 2 weeks. on Green Turtle Cay so have been through Marsh Harbor. Yeah, it was brutal.

Being from a hell-hole, I fully believe she could fully stink. They’re not big on soap there.

I have dealt with people who smelled bad enough to induce vomiting.

Some people simply do not bath on a regular basis...
I'm no fan or being sentenced to sit by someone who is offensive somehow--especially if I'm flying first or some upgraded class. But I DO believe in tolerance--within certain bounds. And someone's smell not matter how bad--although DEEPLY offensive--I would find a way to take care of myself and pray often. There is a lot to be learned spiritually through suffering. I believe people often that have not enough money to buy their way out of unpleasantness can develop great skills of tolerance and even prayer to make it through as they often have no alternative. (I partially think this reality contributes to the passage in the bible about rich people and the eye of the needle.)
I feel there is much to be learned spiritually and in the way of personal development by suffering.
Also what of the person who smells a certain way? If it truly was the nature of her scent derived from her skin color and history. So be it. This is no fault of hers. And is a cultural issue. I find the scent of foods from different cultures offensive at times. But do I ask that they stop? No. I'm sure there are things I do that are offensive to others through no fault of my own.
It brings tears to my eyes for anyone who does have a certain scent that is genetic and are shunned for it. No matter what the race or circumstance.
It is quite another thing when a person purposely does not wash. That is often something that can be controlled. Homeless people often smell foul as they've limited if any access to washing facilities on an hourly basis like non homeless people. But that is not the nature of this situation on the plane and I find it offensive they kicked her off. Very sad indeed.

If you can’t tell a new arrival from Africa from a black who was raised in American culture, you aren’t too bright. Spotting people from other countries really isn’t very tough.
I had never heard “borrow me something” until I moved to the Midwest. It drove me nuts—even heard it from educated professionals and always thought they should have asked for a refund!
An elderly woman sat in front of me at Mass one morning. Came in with her husband, and she was wrapped in a heavy coat although it was a warm spring day. My sense of smell is sharp, but not off the charts. She smelled so bad I started dry-heaving right there in mass. Nobody else noticed. I had to leave; when I returned I sat in the far corner and motioned to my husband to get my stuff.
Looking back, I suspect she had cancer or something. This guy had paid top dollar for first class. hmm. I’d not be happy. There’s ‘a bad smell’ and ‘a really really bad smell.’ The airlines did something and I suspect they had a good reason - else they could have just moved her.
