Roughly 60 years after the abolition of slavery, anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston made an incredible connection: She located the last surviving captive of the last slave ship to bring Africans to the United States. ... In fact, they are only now being released to the public in a book called Barracoon: The Story of the Last Black Cargo that comes out on May 8, 2018... he was only 19 years old when members of the neighboring Dahomian tribe captured him and took him to the coast. There, he and about 120 others were sold into slavery and crammed onto the Clotilda, the last slave ship to reach the continental United States.

The South had to resort to conscription because life in the Army(Known as the P.A.C.S. Provisional Army of the Confederate States) was so full of harsh privation. The North because of slavery and the Emancipation Act. Not many in the North would willingly fight to free the slaves. This is what made conscription necessary.
And that love in good families went both ways. These women NURSED THE CHILDREN AND TAUGHT THEM SPEECH. African accents influenced the vowel sounds of the southern Americans.
And as we well know, the other kind of love went both ways too, with true love affairs developing between people kept apart by skin color and caste. It is foolish to think every mixed child came from rape or forced sex.
because we wouldn't want the blacks to know who captured them and who sold them into slavery...
St. Patrick was kidnapped and enslaved by pirates. Human bondage, involuntary servitude, slavery, there have been many forms. A fair number of the people populating the colonies were in servitude. Most voluntarily indentured to pay their way, to pay for their “transport.” Others were not voluntary, petty criminals, politically inconvenient individuals. We have such a blinkered view of history now, it’s impossible to get some people to grasp that how things are now, is not at all how they’ve always been. Being bound in all it’s forms was an accepted legal status of some human beings and always had been, that was just how it was. Was it “good?” Well, if the choice was slaughter or enslavement after losing a war, most thought surviving was superior and it was regarded as the humane choice.
I realize that this is being commonly taught but it's actually incorrect. The various southern accents trace very clearly back to the various British Isles, Scotland and Ireland. The vowel sounds of black Americans were influenced by British, Scottish and Irish-descended southerners.
No surrender at all
When you decide the tactics of the left and change the subject there is no reason to play
Go your own way
I generalized nothing
I have projected nothing’s ng
You make assumptions not warranted by anything I said.
Not just “white” people fought in the civil war.
I am guilt tripping no one. If you want to wear that don’t blame anyone else
“I generalized nothing”
“White” is a generalization for many different types of people.
None of which has to do with the story of the last living slave from the last slave ship to come to the US
“You make assumptions not warranted by anything I said.”
Not true. I quote you directly: had white people not been willing to pay for slaves there wouldnt have been a market
So what is your point then, if you have been so misconstrued?
Your assumption about what I know about slavery is not justified by anything I posted
I posted a comment in regards to the story posted.
My relatives fought for the grey as well as the blue. My ancestors were Scots. You need not lecture me about slavery nor anything else
Where did I ever invoke white guilt?
Never said it and never will quit putting words in my mouth.
Will you agree that the
KKK was started and fueled by whites who didn’t like losing the Civil War?
Chillax.... You seem to have no problem telling me what to do
Thank you.
Nicely said. True words
Peace be upon you
“Not just white people fought in the civil war.”
I did not say that they did. I actually specifically mentioned blacks fighting in it (albeit my example was on the Confederate side).
“White People”, specifically the British and American Governments, largely put an end to slavery (globally) on the high seas, and through diplomatic pressure.
In regards to a previous comment about this specific article
This slave ship would not have come to the US had people not been buying slaves
That is a true market statement. The white portion is because in all of the US more whites owned slaves than otherwise
You lecture ignorantly, expect to be lectured in return.
You made the error of broadly generalizing slavery as being uniquely the responsibility of white Americans, by implication southerners more specifically although southerners certainly were not alone in the British North American colonies in buying or trading in slaves. Boston and Providence had slave markets.
That’s not to say that the British North American colonies or the later United States were somehow uniquely and solely responsible, slavery preexisted either one and continued on elsewhere after the practice was ended here.
So, what exactly was your point other than to regurgitate the calculated, manipulative leftist collective guilt trip designed to undermine any reverence for our country’s founding?
I see no point other than that.
I made no such error
Do not put words in my mouth
