It was very common back in the 50s to have spinster school teachers, many who had lost a love or fiance in WWII or Korea. Made Miss Havisham seem almost contemporary.

I think there was info on another Q thread - INSANELY evil. Babysitting kids what, 90 hours a week???? With people from foreign countries speaking their native languages, people earning something like minimum wage, with NO training in child care, teaching or anything????
